Smuggled away from poverty in Ivory Coast, tireless Amad Diallo is living his big football dream at Manchester United, via Italy | Football News

In 2017, Italy’s undercover agents arrested a couple from Ivory Coast in Parma. They were allegedly part of a human trafficking ring that sold the European football dream and smuggled children to Italy from West Africa. The couple had two boys in their mid-teens staying with them, Amad and Hamed, both bearing the surname Traore. The couple claimed they were their children, though DNA tests turned up negative. Subsequently, they said they had adopted the children from their close cousins, “to save them from poverty.” Hamed and Amad—it was proved that they were not blood relatives, forget brothers, either—were from Adjame, a densely-populated suburb of Abidjan with the highest crime rate in the country. The Italian authorities did not deport the teenagers home because the investigators contended that the “children were aware of it and had a reasonable life with their fake parents.” They were playing in a local club—Boca Barco—affiliated with Boca Juniors of Argentina. The court, though, slapped a fine of €48,000 on them in 2021. Soon after Amad dropped “Traore” from his …

Why Manchester United’s hard fought draw against Liverpool feels more like a win | Football News

“I’m pretty upset because if we showed this today against Liverpool, why can’t we do this every week?” Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes said after grinding out an impressive 2-2 draw with league leaders Liverpool on their own turf, echoing the sentiments of every Red Devils fan around the world. This was the same outfit which had given up timidly in front of a buoyant Newcastle United side last Monday, albeit without Fernandes and midfield tank Manuel Ugarte. But just 6 days after that embarrassing defeat to end 2024, the new year saw a new United. How long that lasts remains to be seen. After taking charge at United in November, manager Ruben Amorim had warned of a coming storm. On Sunday, as the fans turned up to Anfield for the match which initially faced cancellation due to adverse weather conditions, United brought the thunder. Manchester United’s Amad Diallo, right, scores his side’s 2nd goal against Liverpool during the English Premier League soccer match at the Anfield stadium in Liverpool, England, Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025. …

Amad Diallo goal seals 2-2 draw for Manchester United against Liverpool | Football News

Amad Diallo’s late equalizer secured a 2-2 draw for Manchester United against Premier League leader Liverpool on Sunday. The forward turned home Alejandro Garnacho’s cross in the 80th minute at Anfield after Mohamed Salah’s penalty had looking like giving Liverpool the win. United led through Lisandro Martinez’s strike in the 52nd, but Cody Gakpo leveled seven minutes later. Salah fired Liverpool ahead from the spot in the 70th after Matthijs de Ligt handled in the box. Late drama Raul Jimenez scored a 91st-minute penalty to salvage a 2-2 draw for Fulham against Ipswich. It was Jimenez’s second penalty of the match as Fulham twice came from a goal down at Craven Cottage. Relegation-fighting Ipswich went ahead through Sam Szmodics in the 38th and Jimenez leveled from the spot in the 69th. Ipswich went in front again through Liam Delap’s penalty in the 71st and looked like climbing out of the relegation zone. But when Jimenez was brought down by Leif Davis in the box, referee Darren Bond pointed to the spot again. Jimenez made no …

How Ruben Amorim’s tactics and Amad Diallo’s grit concocted recipe for latest Manchester City meltdown | Football News

When Kyle Walker crumpled to the ground after a face-off with Rasmus Højlund in an embarrassing attempt to get the Manchester United youngster sent off, you could feel Manchester City’s desperation, something their fans aren’t really accustomed to in Pep Guardiola’s age. It was very strange to witness a City player trying these tactics when they were already 1-0 up with United looking toothless but it did speak volumes of how far the confidence of a once all conquering juggernaut had fallen. After the full-time whistle, captain Walker and his City team were laid out on the ground again, having lost 8 of their last 11 games in all competitions, the latest defeat coming courtesy of a one-two knockout punch by United’s 22-year-old sensation Amad Diallo. The Ivorian has been a vital part of United’s system under manager Ruben Amorim due to his desire to chase down anything and everything under the sun. This quality has paid dividends multiple times this season and on Sunday, Diallo’s relentless pressing handed Amorim his second win against City …
