The Congress Thursday lodged complaints with the EC against PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for allegedly making “false” and “divisive” speeches during the Jharkhand and Maharashtra Assembly polls. In the case of the PM, Congress alleged that he had made “false, malicious and slanderous statements” targeting the party and its allies during a speech in Nashik on November 8. Congress said the PM levelled allegations former PMs late Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi and that Congress leaders were opposed to the SCs, STs and OBCs. “The tone and tenor of the entire speech is further evidence of the speaker’s intention to create and spread religious and caste-based animosity,” the Congress said.
