A huge fire ripped through the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the District Women’s Hospital, leaving some newborns covered in black ashes, as panic spread through the wards, eyewitnesses told PTI Videos. Security guards and nurses rushed in to rescue children from the smoke‑filled care units, some parents recalled, even as they blamed the hospital administration for the incident. Giri More than 100 tribal students of three residential schools in Maharashtra’s Amravati district have been hospitalised after suffering from suspected food poisoning, officials said on Monday (July 27, 2026). A police complaint has been lodged against the operator of the central kitchen supplying meals to the schools, tribal development project officer (Dharni) Siddarth Shukla said. The students complained of vomiting after eating meals in the residential schools. On Saturday (July 25, 2026), 69 students were admitted to a government hospital in Dharni. On Sunday (July 26, 2026), similar symptoms were reported among 70 students at the government residential schools in Bijudhavdi and Savlikheda in Dharni tehsil and they were also hospitalised, the official said. Most of the children have since been discharged, while 32 remain under observation. Their condition is stable, he added. The accused, Mohammad Ayan, a resident of Paratwada in Amravati, has been remanded to seven days of police custody, officials said, adding that a detailed probe has been launched into the entire case, the news agency reported. Investigators said the accused allegedly targeted minor girls through a so-called `love trap`, luring them via social media platforms. He is accused of taking victims to cities including Mumbai and Pune, where objectionable videos were allegedly recorded, according to the IANS.
