Amul, Mother Dairy hike milk prices by Rs 2 per litre

Amul and Mother Dairy has announced an increase of Rs 2 per litre in the prices of all its liquid milk variants, effective from May 14, 2026. According to the ANI, Mother Dairy said the revision has been made due to a steady rise in procurement costs paid to farmers over the past year. In an official statement, Mother Dairy said milk procurement prices have increased by around 6 per cent, making the price revision necessary. The dairy major said the hike is only a partial pass-through of rising costs and is intended to maintain a balance between farmer welfare and consumer affordability. A company spokesperson said a large share of milk sales revenue—around 75 to 80 per cent—is passed on to farmers to support their livelihoods. The last revision in milk prices by Mother Dairy was carried out in April 2025. Prices of Amul milk across variants in the country will be raised by Rs 2 per litre with effect from May 1 (Thursday), the marketing federation which owns the dairy brand announced on Wednesday citing an increase in input costs in the production of the commodity. The increase of Rs 2 per litre translates into a range of 3-4 per cent hike in MRP (maximum retail price) which is much lower than average food inflation, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) said in a release. Kolkata to get world`s largest curd plant as Amul invests Rs 600 crore

GCMMF, which sells dairy products under the `Amul` brand, will invest Rs 600 crore to set up an integrated plant in Kolkata, which will also host the world`s largest curd (dahi) manufacturing facility, its MD Jayen Mehta said. Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF) committed to making this investment during the two-day Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS), which concluded on Thursday. “We will be setting up an integrated dairy plant in Kolkata, West Bengal. The new facility will have the world`s largest curd manufacturing plant with a capacity of 10 lakh kg per day,” Mehta told PTI. He said the total investment in this dairy plant will be Rs 600 crore. The total milk processing capacity will be 15 lakh litres per day. Mehta said there is a huge demand for curd in Kolkata and its surrounding areas.
