Why the safety features of self-driving cars are making passengers “sitting ducks” for angry protesters

Why the safety features of self-driving cars are making passengers “sitting ducks” for angry protesters

In January, Doug Fulop was riding home from a night out in San Francisco when a man crossed the street in front of his car, doubled back and began screaming at him. The man punched the car’s windows and tried lifting up the vehicle. He then yelled that he wanted to kill Fulop and the other two passengers for giving money to a robot. A taxi driver would have simply driven away. But Fulop’s vehicle had no driver — it was a self-driving Waymo. “We felt helpless,” said Fulop, 37, who works in the tech industry. Since autonomous cars started roaming San Francisco streets almost four years ago, they have elicited an array of reactions from humans, including angry protests against the vehicles. That has created an unexpected hazard for passengers of self-driving cars all around the city: being stuck inside the vehicle during an anti-robot rant. Self-driving cars are designed to stop moving if a person is nearby. People can take advantage of that function to harass and threaten their passengers. In 2024, a …

Dharmendra left out of Oscars 2026 In Memoriam segment, angry fans say: ‘Just a Hollywood show, not truly international’

The 98th Academy Awards were held in Los Angeles on Sunday night, honouring the best and brightest from Hollywood’s 2025 slate. The evening also saw an extended In Memoriam segment, honouring the actors, filmmakers, and technicians who passed away in the past year. And even as cine legends like Robert Redford and Rob Reiner’s careers were celebrated, Indian fans were miffed that Bollywood legend Dharmendra failed to even find a mention. Bollywood legend Dharmendra’s name was missing from 2026 Oscars’ In Memoriam segment. Oscars 2026 In Memoriam segment The In Memoriam segment at this year’s Oscars was the longest in the awards show’s history. The organisers had said they would do something ‘different’ this year instead of just a video playing on screen. This difference included two segments within the segment, wherein Rob Reiner and Robert Redford were honoured by their colleagues. Director Rob Reiner was honoured by Billy Crystal, the star of his iconic film When Harry Met Sally. Barbra Streisand, who played opposite Robert Redford in The Way We Were, called him a …

Aamir Khan had his brief ‘angry young man’ moment with Raakh that won him his first and only National Film Award for acting: ‘He wasn’t star material’ | Bollywood News

Aamir Khan was all of 23 when he made his debut with the Saiyaara of the 1980s, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. But this wasn’t his first feature film. Aamir first shot for a film called Raakh, directed by Aditya Bhattacharya, and the film could have easily become his debut and perhaps, if this was released first, Aamir would probably be known as the ‘angry young man’ of his generation. Raakh, also starring Supriya Pathak and Pankaj Kapur, was also the debut film of editor Sreekar Prasad and cinematographer Santosh Sivan who became the pioneers of their respective professions in later years. Raakh also remains the only film that has fetched Aamir Khan an acting honour in the Special Mention category (along with his work in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak). It is said that Aamir’s father Tahir Hussain and uncle Nasir Hussain wanted to release QSQT first as this was more of a commercially viable launch vehicle for the young actor and upon watching Raakh, one can imagine why a traditional Bollywood producer would choose the …

‘Axar was angry when dropped… I gave Abhishek Sharma guarantee he’ll face 1st ball in the final… We wanted to spread this thing like a virus’

In his first interview since lifting the trophy, India captain Suryakumar Yadav speaks to The Indian Express about the 18-month plan to build a new culture from scratch and the tough conversations he had to have with his players in order to get the best out of them during the high-stakes knockout matches. With the World Cup win, all that hard work over the past two years must have been paid off? Suryakumar Yadav: Yes. When I was given the opportunity, I said post-match that Jay Shah sir, Rohit (Sharma) bhai, Gauti bhai (Gautam Gambhir) and the selectors gave me the responsibility to lead the team. I didn’t know if I would become captain after Rohit retiring — I came to know about it suddenly. But I told myself: if I win the World Cup as a player, and now as a captain, it will be even bigger. I will get better motivation in life. Every day you don’t get the opportunity to lead India. Question: Do you remember where you got the call? Suryakumar …

Earlier this week, Letterboxd, the film cataloguing social platform, unveiled its list of 500 top films. The exhaustive list, curated by one of its patrons, features the highest-rated films on the platform, ranked by user ratings and popularity. However, as Indian users noted that only 9 films from the country made the cut, many felt disappointed that the world’s largest film industry was underrepresented.
