Anti-drug enforcement drive gathers pace in Kozhikode city

The Kozhikode City police have registered 415 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested 523 suspects so far this year, as anti-drug enforcement drive gains momentum in the city. The intensified crackdown has reportedly led to the seizure of 2.65 kg of MDMA, 51.47 kg of ganja and other narcotic substances in the city alone, besides action against repeat offenders and properties allegedly linked to drug trafficking. According to data released by the District Crime Records Bureau (Kozhikode City), 21 of the cases detected this year involved commercial quantities of narcotic substances, while nine were classified as medium-quantity cases and 23 as small-quantity cases. A total of 340 cases were registered separately for possession and use of drugs for personal consumption. The seizures made during the year include nearly 10 grams of methamphetamine and 16.91 grams of brown sugar. Officials with the anti-narcotics squad attribute the increase in detections to close surveillance, intelligence-based operations, and intensified flash inspections. Punjab Police conducts statewide anti-drug operation, carry out 187 arrests in a

Punjab Police carried out a massive Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) across the state as part of its ongoing anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, resulting in the registration of 155 cases and the arrest of 187 individuals in a single day, Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla said on Thursday. Speaking on the development, the DGP said the operation was conducted under the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and targeted identified drug hotspots across the state. “The operation was supervised by senior officers, including ADGs, IGs, and DIGs from the headquarters, along with district SSPs and DIGs. We have recorded 155 cases today, arrested 187 individuals, and recovered a huge quantity of heroin and tablets,” Shukla stated. Excise in Kochi steps up anti-drug drive with new intelligence wing

The Ernakulam unit of the Excise has stepped up its game in the fight against drug peddling with a renewed internal intelligence system. Two teams, comprising 22 excise officials, have been deployed to gather intelligence on suspected trafficking of narcotic items and other contraband in a move to step up surveillance and preventive measures. Officials claimed that the mechanism had proved effective, with the leads from the units resulting in at least four seizures in the first week since it was launched. The cases registered following inputs from the intelligence wing include the arrest of a 28-year-old man with 252.48 grams of suspected MDMA from a lodge in the city recently. In that incident, the alleged drug peddler, Adarsh Sidharthan of Karumadi, Ambalapuzha, was nabbed within hours since he received the contraband. Excise sources said the youth had allegedly collected over 300 grams of the suspected contraband from Manjummel in the suburbs. It is suspected that he had managed to sell off a portion of the contraband to another peddler before being caught, they added. …
