WWDC 2026 roundup: Siri AI, Apple Intelligence, iOS 26 and more | Technology News

Apple kicked off WWDC 2026 by revealing the next generation of its software platforms, placing artificial intelligence (AI) at the centre of nearly every announcement.  The company introduced a significantly upgraded Siri, expanded Apple Intelligence capabilities, new safety features for children and teens, and fresh operating system updates that aim to make Apple’s devices smarter, more personal and more useful. While no major hardware products were announced during the keynote, Apple delivered one of its biggest software refreshes in recent years. The biggest announcement at WWDC 2026 was the introduction of a new Siri powered by advanced Apple Intelligence models. Apple says the new Siri is more natural, conversational and context-aware than previous versions. Instead of responding to isolated commands, Siri can now understand ongoing conversations and maintain context across multiple requests. For example, users can ask Siri about information in an email, then continue the conversation with follow-up questions without needing to repeat details. Siri can also understand what is happening on the screen and take actions based on what users are viewing. The …

At WWDC, Apple unveils its strategy to win consumer AI, starting with a revamped Siri | Technology News

Apple on Monday announced that a brand new Siri, its virtual assistant, is gaining the ability to speak more naturally and draw on users’ personal context, along with deep and advanced AI features, as part of a broader redesign unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in Cupertino, California. With this all-new version of Siri, Apple is finally giving its 15-year-old virtual assistant a modern makeover, allowing it to better compete with AI-powered assistants such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. The world’s most powerful technology company also announced software updates that will impact billions of iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches around the world, including new child safety features for parents who want to better track and monitor the smartphone and online habits of their children. However, it was Siri that many expected to receive a major revamp, highlighting how Apple is reimagining its products for the age of artificial intelligence as more people turn to chatbots and AI agents for everyday tasks. The launch of the all-new Siri, along with software updates and …

OpenAI vs Apple? AI Partnership Faces Legal Threat Over Siri Plans

OpenAI vs Apple? AI Partnership Faces Legal Threat Over Siri Plans

4 min readNew DelhiMay 15, 2026 01:14 PM IST OpenAI is preparing legal action against Apple over what it sees as a breakdown in their two-year-old artificial intelligence (AI) partnership, Bloomberg reported. The Microsoft-backed AI firm reportedly believes it did not receive the commercial and strategic benefits it had expected from the deal that brought ChatGPT integration to Apple devices. The partnership, unveiled in 2024 as part of the company’s “Apple Intelligence” push, allowed Siri to route some user queries to ChatGPT and enabled iPhone users to sign up for ChatGPT subscriptions directly through Apple’s ecosystem. OpenAI had expected the arrangement to significantly boost subscriptions, visibility, and deeper integration of its AI models across Apple’s apps and services. However, Bloomberg and Reuters reported that OpenAI now feels Apple has not expanded the collaboration meaningfully enough. OpenAI’s lawyers are already working with an external law firm to examine possible legal options, including issuing Apple a formal breach-of-contract notice, according to reports. The company is still seeking a negotiated solution and may not immediately file a full …

Apple to Launch Smart Home Hub With AI, Built-In Camera by the End of This Year: Gurman

Apple has long been rumoured to revamp its smart home device lineup with a new tabletop device that can move around a user’s desk and has a robotic arm. However before this purported device is introduced to the market, the Cupertino-based tech giant may introduce a lower-end version that cuts down on several marquee features to retain a lower price tag. A seasoned journalist claims that the purported smart home hub could make its debut by the end of the year, equipped with a tablet-like display, camera, support for Apple Intelligence, and a new operating system (OS). Apple’s New Smart Home Hub Launch According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s smart home hub with a robotic arm, with the codename J595, is part of its plans to introduce AI-centric devices. Apple Smart Glasses Codename Leaked; Said to Arrive With Support for Apple Intelligence

Apple is working on a pair of smart glasses that resemble a pair of spectacles, and details of the wearable’s features have now surfaced online. In June 2023, the company unveiled the Apple Vision Pro, and the mixed-reality headset went on sale in select markets last year. In the US, it is priced at $3,499 (roughly Rs. 2,98,600). Apple’s rumoured smart glasses are expected to resemble Meta’s Project Orion prototype which was unveiled last year, or the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses — the latter costs up to $379 (roughly Rs. 32,000). Apple’s Smart Glasses Could Support Apple Intelligence Features Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman states in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter that the purported Apple smart glasses are codenamed N50. The device is expected to compete with Meta’s upcoming smart glasses, which are expected to debut later this year, equipped with a small display and support for apps unlike the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. Gurman claims that the anticipated Apple smart glasses will “analyse the surrounding environment and feed information to the wearer,” but …

EU AI Rules Delay Tech Rollouts, But Civil Societies Says Safety Comes First

EU AI Rules Delay Tech Rollouts, But Civil Societies Says Safety Comes First

Tech companies are adamant that the regulation of artificial intelligence in the E.U. is preventing its citizens from accessing the latest and greatest products. However, a number of civil society groups feel otherwise, maintaining that AI developers need to produce products that uphold their customers’ safety and privacy. Some of tech giants’ delayed launches in EU There have been a number of instances where the launches of AI products in the E.U. have either been delayed or cancelled as a result of regulations. For instance, this week, Meta’s Llama 4 series of AI models was released everywhere except Europe. Its AI chatbots integrated into WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram only made it to the bloc 18 months after the U.S. Similarly, Google’s AI Overviews currently only appear in eight member states, having arrived nine months later than in the States, and both its Bard and Gemini models had delayed European releases. Apple Intelligence has only just become available in the E.U. with the release of iOS 18.4, after “regulatory uncertainties brought about by the Digital Markets …
