Photo: Special Arrangement  The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Plenary has appointed Culture Ministry Secretary Vivek Aggarwal as the next vice-president of the global anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing watchdog for the 2026-2027 term. “Members approved the priorities of the FATF under the incoming U.K. Presidency, and appointed Mr. Vivek Aggarwal of India as the incoming vice-president of the FATF (July 2026-June 2027),” said an FATF release. Mr. Aggarwal will succeed Giles Thomson, who has served as FATF vice-president since July 1, 2025. Currently serving as Secretary in the Culture Ministry, Mr. Aggarwal has headed India’s delegation to the FATF. He led a multidisciplinary team during India’s FATF Mutual Evaluation process. His selection is being viewed as a significant development for India’s role in global financial governance and efforts to strengthen international cooperation on issues of anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing and illicit financial flows. India was on Friday accorded the vice presidency of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the global body that sets standards for combating money laundering and terrorist financing, for the first time. New Delhi has been a member of the influential international body since 2010. Vivek Aggarwal is a 1994-batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre and has served as the head of the Indian delegation to the FATF and as the director of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU). Ludhiana: Ojasvi Alankar appointed as new MC commissioner

The Punjab government on Saturday appointed IAS officer Ojasvi Alankar as the new municipal commissioner of Ludhiana. Alankar, currently serving as additional chief administrator of the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA), will assume the charge on Monday, while Saturday marked the last working day of outgoing commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta. A 2016-batch IAS officer, she had assumed charge as the civic body commissioner on January 27 this year and served in the post for less than five months. The England International Andrew Flintoff has been named as the head coach of the Sydney Thunder in the BBL. He has signed a two-year contract with the Thunder and will be replacing Trevor Bayliss, who has been in the role for five seasons. This will be Flintoff’s first stint for Flintoff to take a coaching role outside of England. He has also been the England Lions Coach and England A in the last 12 months. As a player, Andrew Flintoff has played for Brisbane Heat in the BBL, where he made seven appearances, scoring 74 runs and accounting for three wickets. Former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah has been made a member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party’s apex decision-making body, days after he relinquished the Karnataka chief minister’s post to clear the way for DK Shivakumar. Last month, the high command had reportedly offered Siddaramaiah a central role in the party. (PTI) Siddaramaiah, 77, resigned as chief minister on May 28, saying he had been asked by the Congress high command to step down to make way for his deputy, Shivakumar or DKS. The move ended a prolonged power tussle dating back to the party’s 2023 win, when both leaders had staked a claim to the top job. Last month, the high command had reportedly offered Siddaramaiah a central role in the party. The CWC berth now moves in that direction.
