1 min readImphalJun 10, 2026 04:53 AM IST A KUKI farmer was killed in an attack by armed miscreants in Lansan village in Manipur’s Tamenglong district on Tuesday. The police said the attack happened around 11.30 am in the Kuki-dominated village. According to the police, a group of armed miscreants opened fire towards some farmers working in a paddy field along the Imphal-Tamenglong road. Haogin Louvum, 55, was killed in the attack. A case has been registered and investigation is underway, said the police. The incident was reported on the day 14 Kuki men, who had been held captive by Naga groups since May 13, were released. The 14 men had been abducted following a twin ambush at Kangpokpi and Noney districts, killing four persons including three church leaders and one Naga man. On Monday, a Rongmei Naga man, Chunjanglung Panmei, 58, was killed in an attack in Pongringlong Part-I village of Kangpokpi district. Six persons were injured when an armed gang launched a violent attack on passers-by on a street in Nettur village, Tenkasi district, on Friday (May 29, 2026). According to the police, a group of around nine members arrived on two-wheelers at Madha Koil Street in Nettur at around 6.30 p.m. on Friday. Without any apparent provocation, the assailants drew sickles and attacked six persons identified as Arul Maran, Santoshkumar, Madasamy, Rayappan, Ramesh, and Ramkumar, all residents of the village. The police said that five of the six injured persons belonged to Scheduled Caste (SC) communities. The injured were initially taken to the Government Hospital in Alangulam and were later referred to the Tirunelveli Government Medical College and Hospital (TGMCH). The Alangulam police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
