Shabana Azmi on receiving Honorary Doctorate of Arts by University of East London
Praise, recognition, and then some more. That’s what Shabana Azmi’s days are filled with, and deservedly so. Even as she is winning acclaim for her performances in Awarapan 2 and Batwara 1947, there’s more applause coming her way. On September 9, the noted actor will be conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Arts by the University of East London in recognition of her contribution to cinema, arts, and social change. Naturally, Azmi is humbled and honoured by the recognition. She told mid-day, “When I go up on stage, I always think of Abba [Kaifi Azmi] and smile. It used to make him proud despite the fact that he had several [honorary doctorates] himself, as does Javed [Akhtar, husband]! University of East London is highly respected for its academics, and its inclusive and socially conscious leadership.” Disclaimer: We do not own any of the content, ideas, images, or text presented here.
