Arsha drew cars, Fatema the globe: Artwork by kids killed in Iran school bombing come to Delhi | Delhi News

3 min readNew DelhiApr 19, 2026 01:47 AM IST “I love my mother a lot. I miss her when I go to school. My father drops me to school” — these sentences in Persian feature in a drawing of a heart connected by two flowers, roughly shaded in red with a yellow centre. Another drawing, this one by six-year-old Arsha Mirani, shows two cars colored in blue, red, orange and pink. A sun shines above, with three hearts on the right. It, too, has a small message in Persian: ‘the sun is yellow… Arsha has a car and mother is cooking food’. The two drawings are among 28 photos on display at the Iran Embassy in Delhi, drawn by young children who were killed when a missile destroyed their school in Southern Iran’s Minab on February 28 — the day the Iran-US-Israel war broke out. The artworks were recovered from school bags, buried beneath the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ elementary school, by Red Crescent rescue teams. It was then scanned and emailed to the Iranian Embassy. …

Celebrating Marcel Duchamp: the artist who turned a urinal into an artwork | News Today News

3 min readUpdated: Apr 10, 2026 08:25 PM IST It was more than 100 years ago that by turning a urinal upside down, artist Marcel Duchamp did the same to the art world — quite literally. In April 1917, the French-American artist famously submitted an inverted urinal brought from a store, signed and dated “R. Mutt, 1917,” to the Society of Independent Artists’ salon in New York, which claimed to be “unjuried”. Associated with the Dada movement (that questioned traditionlal values in art in post World War 1 Europe), Duchamp reportedly wanted to test that claim. Consequently, the artwork titled Fountain might have failed to find a place in their exhibition, but it did manage to cause a stir. What followed was a decades-long debate on the meaning and boundaries of what constitutes art and what can be claimed by an artist as their own work. While that discussion continues to evolve till date, and Fountain is often cited as a cornerstone of conceptual art in some ways, a new exhibition at the Museum of …

‘Sone ka darwaza’: Inside Sunny Leone’s stunning Mumbai home with LA-style kitchen, private theater, DIY artwork, and stunning view | Bollywood News

Farah Khan, along with her longtime cook Dilip, had earlier visited Sunny Leone’s luxurious Mumbai home — and the tour quickly turned into a delightful experience. The property opens into a grand, five-star hotel-like lobby, which initially left Dilip thinking it was the main house itself, only to be led further in through what he excitedly called a “sone ka darwaza.” Stepping inside, the house boasts striking interiors — black-and-white marble flooring at the entrance, transitioning into sleek grey floors across the rest of the space. The decor follows a clean, minimal palette of white interiors, complemented by grey sofas, carpets, and curtains. Sitting area in Sunny Leone’s house. (Photo: Farah Khan/YouTube) Impressed, Farah said, “I want to see this house. It is lovely.” Her attention was soon drawn to a detailed artwork featuring Lord Buddha set against a black background, highlighted with intricate green and yellow patterns. Sunny Leone shared, “This is from Nepal. Buddha down the hallway.” Pointing to other artworks, she added, “The rest are all mine.” Open space in Sunny’s house. …

‘If an artwork fails to make people feel its dissent, it is essentially lifeless’: Chinese artist and activist on the importance of confrontation | Eye News

Chinese artist Ai Weiwei has long rejected the belief that art can exist in isolation. Rooted in lived experience, where the personal and the political are often inseparable, his practice over more than three decades has consistently responded to the manner in which power shapes memory and history. A leading figure of the Chinese avant-garde in the ’90s, he found himself frequently in conflict with state authority and emerged as one of its most prominent dissident voices, particularly after leaving China in 2015 and taking up temporary addresses in Berlin, Cambridge and now Montemor-o-Novo (Portugal). His first India solo at Nature Morte gallery in Delhi brings together works that reflect his long-standing inquiries into material and authority. On view, among others, is Stone Axes Painted White, which reconfigures Neolithic tools as well as a series of Lego works — a material he has used extensively since the mid-2010s — that reimagine paintings by Indian modernists SH Raza and VS Gaitonde into pixel-like grids. In an email interview ahead of his India visit, he reflects on …

Kochi Muziris Biennale artwork controversy: artist Tom Vattakuzhy says he didn’t intend to hurt anyone’s sentiments

Artist Tom Vattakuzhy, whose artwork displayed at the ongoing Kochi Muziris Biennale had invited the wrath of the Catholic Church on Wednesday (December 31, 2025), termed the development as ‘unfortunate’ while stating that he had never intended to hurt anyone’s faith or sentiments. “Born into a Christian family, most of my works had been inspired by the humanism seen in Christian values. This artwork is an extension of that thought process and not a distortion of The Last Supper as alleged by those opposing it,” he said. The work in question is part of the ‘Edam’ exhibition at the Garden Convention Centre in Bazar Road, which brings together the works of 36 artists, reflecting a wide range of artistic practices and voices. Mr. Vattakuzhy, whose work has long been part of Kerala’s cultural and literary landscape, said that his work was inspired by the play Mridhavangiyude Durmruthyu by writer C. Gopan and not based on the theme of Last Supper. “The story itself is inspired by a poem written by Vyloppilli, which, in turn, draws …

‘Below2°’: An artwork that is melting | Art-and-culture News

As temperatures soar across North India and the India Meteorological Department warns of an intense heatwave ahead, artist Aakash Ranison’s artwork ‘Below2°’ — installed at the eco-resort Karma Lakelands in Gurugram — warns of the impending climatic disasters that await. A five-foot globe constructed from 1,000 repurposed golf balls, hand-painted by schoolchildren to symbolise the generation inheriting the planet, the globe is created with a special wax adhesive mixed with natural chemicals that is engineered to melt at 53°C, serving as a metaphor for the consequences of surpassing critical climate thresholds. “With global temperatures already exceeding 1.5°C of warming, the artwork underscores the devastating implications of breaching the 2°C limit set by the Paris Agreement,” notes a release.
