Feb 24, 2025 10:58 AM IST Arvinder Singh Lovely will administer oaths to newly elected MLAs before the election of a new Speaker later on Monday.  BJP MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely was on Monday sworn in as the pro-tem speaker of the newly constituted Delhi Assembly. The BJP ended the decade-long rule of the AAP in Delhi, winning 48 of the 70 seats in the February 5 Assembly elections. Lovely, who is one of the senior-most legislators of the House, will administer oath to the newly elected MLAs. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator and former leader of opposition (LoP) in Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, on Friday said that Gandhi Nagar Member of Legislative Assembly Arvinder Singh Lovely would be the Pro-tem Speaker of the House. Gupta is likely to be the Delhi Assembly Speaker. Pro-tem Speaker is a temporary Speaker who conducts the House proceedings for a limited period and till the election of the full-time Speaker. According to news agency PTI, Gupta told reporters that the new Delhi government was in place with a “new enthusiasm and a new passion”. “Things are moving step by step in keeping with the enthusiasm and passion of the people of Delhi. A meeting has been held with the CM in which some discussion has taken place on how further proceedings will proceed,” the legislator stated. He resigned as the Delhi Congress president on April 28 saying that he had found himself “handicapped and unable to continue” as all unanimous decisions taken by the Delhi Congress have been unilaterally vetoed by the AICC general secretary (Delhi In-charge) Deepak Babaria. At that time, Mr. Lovely said that he was only resigning from his post and not quitting the party.
