The Maharashtra government, in the Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday (May 5, 2026), approved upgrading 19 secondary schools to junior college level and 5 primary ashram schools to secondary level under the Tribal Development Department. The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, decided to upgrade the classes with the aim of preventing dropouts and continuing the educational progress of tribal students in the hilly and remote areas of the State. The Gujarat High Court (HC) on Friday dismissed an appeal filed by the Asaram Ashram Trust in a long-running land dispute in the Motera area in Ahmedabad. The court upheld its previous orders to resume the land and clear the way for the state government to take possession of more than 45,000 square metres of prime land, news agency IANS reported. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Justice DN Ray affirmed an earlier judgment delivered by a single judge, which had upheld the Ahmedabad Collector’s order to take back the land on grounds of breach of allotment conditions and encroachment. The bench found that the Ashram had “repeatedly breached” government conditions and that “no question of regularisation of illegal occupation arises”, IANS reported.
