India clinch fifth Asian Champions Trophy title with sensational win over China in final – India TV

Image Source : HOCKEY INDIA Indian hockey team. India defeated China in a hard-fought final of the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 on Tuesday, September 17. The Harmanpreet Singh-led Indian team edged past the hosts China in the final at the Moqi Training Base, Hulunbuir in China with a 1-0 win. With this, India have clinched a record-extending fifth Asian Champions Trophy title and their second consecutive crown in the tournament. India were denied for the first three quarters despite some big attacking moves by the defending champions. Chinese goalkeeper Wang made some brilliant saves from the field and on penalty corners. But the deadlock ended with a superbly planned goal from the Indians in the final quarter.  Captain Harmanpreet Singh gave a brilliant ball to another defender Jugraj in front of the goal and Jugraj nailed his strike past the Chinese goal-saver. Asian Champions Trophy hockey: Mentor figure Raj Kumar Pal combines with Uttam Singh for fine team goal, India beat Korea to reach final Uttam Singh in action against Korea. (Hockey India) Raj Kumar Pal started playing hockey at the Karampur village stadium in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, after seeing his two elder brothers play the sport. As he started rising through the ranks, Raj Kumar turned out to be a brotherly figure to Uttam Singh at that very stadium. It made for a lovely moment on Monday at Moqi Hockey Training Base in Hulunbuir on Monday, as the two were part of India’s well-worked opening goal in the semifinal of the men’s Asian Champions Trophy.
