The 23-year-old threw 92.62m at the Rome Diamond League on Thursday night to make the new meet record, new national record for Sri Lanka, and take the World lead. Overall, it sits eighth in the all-time list for longest throws in men’s javelin, with Pathirage overtaking current India national coach Sergey Makarov. One of the most consistent throwers this season, Rumesh broke the national record earlier in March and took the world lead with 89.37m throw. He crossed 89m again at the Kip Kenio Classic in April throwing 89.28m Competing in an elite field with current world champion Keshorn Walcott, former world champion Anderson Peters, former Olympic champion Thomas Rohler, former Olympic silver medallist Jakub Vadlejch, Rumesh took the lead with his first throw of 84.49m and recorded 92.67m in his second throw. In a statement issued after its Executive Board meeting in Sanya, China, on Wednesday, the OCA said it had “welcomed the official bid submitted by the Indian Olympic Association to host the 2038 Asian Games in the city of Ahmedabad,” marking a significant step in India’s push to stage another major multi-sport event. The OCA added that its Executive Board also “addressed a number of strategic matters concerning the future of the sports movement in Asia,” even as India’s proposal emerged as a key highlight of the discussions. Shima is set to construct Asia’s longest ropeway project spanning 13.79 kilometers, in a bid to boost tourism and alleviate traffic congestion in the popular hill station. The Tara Devi-Shimla Ropeway Project, which has already begun, is being undertaken at a cost of Rs 1,734.40 crore by the Ropeway and Rapid Transport System Development Corporation, under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with the Himachal Pradesh government. It will also be the world’s second largest ropeway. The ropeway, will run between Maa Tara Devi and Sanjauli, covering an area of approximately 60 kilometers, and connect 15 key stations across Shimla and nearby areas. Roughly 2,000 people will be allowed to travel from both directions every hour. It will comprise 660 cabins, each having a carrying capacity of 8-10 passengers. The cabins will arrive at the stations every two to three minutes. DBS, Singapore’s largest bank, has announced plans to reduce its workforce by approximately 4,000 roles over the next three years. This move is driven by the increasing adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, which will assume responsibilities currently handled by human employees. The affected positions will primarily consist of temporary and contract staff, with the reduction in workforce resulting from natural attrition as projects are completed. Notably, permanent staff will not be impacted by these cuts. According to DBS’s outgoing CEO, Piyush Gupta, the bank expects to create around 1,000 new job opportunities related to AI. This development makes DBS one of the first major banks to provide insight into the effects of AI on its operations. However, the company has not disclosed the number of jobs that will be cut in Singapore specifically. A DBS spokesperson elaborated on the workforce reduction, stating, “Over the next three years, we envisage that AI could reduce the need to renew about 4,000 temporary/contract staff across our 19 markets working on specific projects”. The Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) has commissioned Asia’s largest shallow wave basin research facility to cater to research and industry requirements. The indigenously developed facility is located at Discovery — IIT-M’s satellite campus in Thaiyur, which is in the city’s suburb. The multidirectional shallow wave basin can handle complex wave and current interaction, addressing problems faced by Indian ports, waterways and coastal engineering issues.    The National Technology Centre for Ports Waterways and Coasts (NTCPWC) has established the facility. The technology arm of the Shipping Ministry, which offers technological support to ports, Inland Waterways Authority of India and other institutions.  IIT-Madras Ocean Engineering department professor K.
