In a unique initiative to celebrate women in sport, a massive nationwide athletics league at 250 locations will be held under the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports’ ASMITA (Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action) programme to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8. This was announced by Minister of State, Raksha Nikhil Khadse in New Delhi on Monday. “There can’t be a better opportunity to integrate our young women across the nation and what better tool than using the ASMITA platform that is already gaining in popularity across the length and breadth of the country,” said Khadse at a media conference held at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. ASMITA is part of Khelo India’s gender-neutral mission to promote sports among women through leagues and competitions. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has barred Asmita Patel Global School of Trading Pvt Ltd (AGSTPL); finfluencer Asmita Patel, who called herself the ‘She Wolf of the stock market’; her husband Jitesh Jethalal Patel and three others from accessing the securities markets for allegedly providing unregistered investment advisory services and research analyst activities. The markets regulator, in its interim order, has directed that an amount of Rs 53.67 crore be impounded from these six entities. Asmita Dhone clinched the bronze medal in the clean and jerk category of youth women’s 49 kg weight class at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Doha, Qatar on Friday. Asmita registered the best lift of 94 Kg to clinch this medal and also break the national youth record in this category. However, she missed out on an overall medal, lifting a total of 162 Kg.
