The Delhi government on Thursday announced an ex gratia compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of those killed in the Malviya Nagar hotel fire tragedy and Rs 5 lakh for those who sustained serious injuries in the incident. According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited Max Hospital in Saket to meet those injured in the fire and review their treatment. During her visit, she interacted with the injured and their family members and directed officials to ensure all necessary support is extended to the affected families. Three members of a family, including a four-year-old girl, died of asphyxiation after a fire broke out at Pasha Colony in Neknampur, Narsingi, on Friday evening. The blaze is believed to have been caused by a short circuit in the electric meter box on the ground floor of the G+2 building, which also houses a convenience store. Officials from the Fire Department confirmed that the victims, identified as Sijira Khatoon, 4, Jameela Khatoon, 65, and Sahana Khatoon, 30, succumbed while undergoing treatment. District Fire Officer (DFO) of Ranga Reddy, Shaik Khaja Karimulla, stated that 12 residents were rescued from the building. He said that the survivors conducted a headcount and promptly alerted officials about the missing family members. Firefighters used a ladder to break into their first-floor flat, where they were found unconscious. In a tragic incident, five workers lost their lives due to asphyxiation while cleaning a sludge tank at an agrotech company in Gujarat’s Kutch district. The incident took place around 1 am on Wednesday as the workers were cleaning the effluent treatment plant, according to Kutch (East) Superintendent of Police, Sagar Bagmar. All deceased workers were in their 30s and have been identified as Sidharth Tiwari, Ajmat Khan, Ashish Gupta, Ashish Kumar, and Sanjay Thakur. “When a worker entered a tank to remove sludge, he fell unconscious. Two other workers rushed inside the tank to rescue him, but they also fainted. Two more followed suit, and all five died,” Bagmar said.   Among the deceased, four workers are reported to be from outside Gujarat, while one hailed from Patan district.
