A Division Bench of Justices G.R. Swaminathan and V. Lakshminarayanan recorded the submission made on behalf of the government and closed a writ petition filed by Madurai-based advocate S. Venkatesh who had sought a direction to the government to file a curative petition. According to the prosecution, the victim child had been subjected to aggravated sexual assault by her neighbour in an apartment complex before being murdered.
