Prabhakar on Friday (June 19, 2026) announced six MLAs for the Panel of Chairpersons nominated by him to the 17th Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. R. Vijay Saravanan (Thanjavur), V. Sathyabama (Tiruppur North), and Madhar Badharudeen (Madurai Central) of the TVK; Katharbatcha Muthuramalingam (Ramanathapuram) of the DMK; Thalavai Sundaram (Kanniyakumari) of the AIADMK; and Tharahai Cuthbert (Colachel) of the Congress have been nominated by the Speaker to the Panel of Chairpersons to the House. Earlier, the House observed condolences for former members who passed away recently, including C. Ramaswami, T. Veeraswamy, C. Swaminathan, H.G. Arumugam, P. Kanna, and A. Nanjil Murugesan. TVK-led government failed to secure Cauvery water for kuruvai cultivation: Edappadi Palaniswami

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Thursday (June 18, 2026) alleged that the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government had failed to take adequate steps to secure Cauvery water for kuruvai cultivation in the Delta districts, causing hardship to farmers and depriving agricultural labourers of employment opportunities. Speaking to reporters after the Governor’s address in the Assembly, Mr. Palaniswami said the Mettur Dam could not be opened on June 12 as the storage level was inadequate. “The TVK government has Congress members in the Cabinet. It could have used their support to hold talks with the Karnataka Chief Minister and secure the water due to Tamil Nadu as per the monthly schedule,” he said. Replying to BJP member Y.M. Satish, the Minister said the government is taking steps to ensure that requests related to maternity and childcare leave are addressed within a fixed timeframe. A policy will be formulated to ensure that applications for maternity leave are approved within 15 days of submission. Transfer choice He added that women teachers returning to duty after maternity leave can seek a transfer to a place of their choice during counselling.
