What UK’s assisted dying bill says, how it compares to Indian law | Explained News

The House of Commons on November 29 voted in favour of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill. In what was a “free vote”, MPs were permitted to vote according to their conscience instead of following the party line. Eventually, the Bill was passed with a majority of 330 to 275, with 38 MPs not voting. The Bill allows terminally ill patients — those with little to no hope of recovery from fatal illnesses — to request assistance to end their own life. The Bill will now be sent to a “public bill committee” which will vote on any proposed amendments before being voted on again in the House of Commons. It will then be sent to the House of Lords, where further changes could be made, before a final vote is held. What led to the introduction of the assisted dying bill? UK’s Assisted Dying Bill A Step Closer To Reality As MPs Vote In Favour

On Friday, Members of Parliament of the House of Commons voted in favour of a bill that will grant terminally ill adults in England and Wales with less than six months to live the right to die with medical assistance under proper legislation. The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill can now go through a lengthy process of amendments by the House of Lords before becoming a law – since the bill got 330 votes in favour and 275 against. MPs were deeply divided by this issue and were given a free vote without any constraints on the lines of parties. “People across the country will be paying extremely close attention to today’s vote, but this is a matter of conscience,” Prime Minister Keir Starmer spokesperson said, who voted for the bill.  The legislation delineates a maximum 14-year prison sentence for anyone who coerces someone to take lethal medication or request assisted dying.  “We are not talking about a choice between life or death – we are talking about giving people a choice about how to …

CES 2023: Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC for Assisted Driving, Entertainment Unveiled by Qualcomm

Mobile chip maker Qualcomm on Wednesday unveiled a processor chip for the car called Snapdragon Ride Flex SoC that handles both assisted driving and cockpit functions, including entertainment. Previously those functions were handled on different chips and merging them can help bring down costs, said Nakul Duggal, Qualcomm’s head of automotive. “Obviously you are reducing the number of physical boxes.
