Police arrested four persons on the charge of allegedly attempting to murder a businessman in Hippargi in Bagalkot district of Karnataka. They face charges of trying to kill Hanumant Athani, a businessman, and also of threatening to kill him. Hanumant Athani survived a blast in his car in front of a bar in Hippargi village on July 25, as he was not in the car at that time. Investigators arrested Shivanand Parasappa Jalli, 29, and Revanappa Ningappa Jalli, 24, their relative Mahadev Beerappa Sangapur, 21, all from Tiganibidari near Babaleshwar in Vijayapura district, and Mallikarjun Murageppa Bhadrapanavar, 23, from Babaleshwar. Two other persons, who sold gelatin sticks, have been picked up for questioning. Another accused Gajanan Sangapur, who was allegedly involved in arranging explosive material, is absconding. Efforts are on to nab him. The Pune City Police have registered a first information report (FIR) against an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder from the United Kingdom (UK) for allegedly attempting to convert people to Christianity through religious gatherings, news agency ANI reported, quoting a police official on Monday. A 20-year-old Bangladeshi national was found dead on Sunday after Border Security Force (BSF) personnel fired at him on Saturday at Magruli in Tripura’s Unakoti district, said police. Tripura has an 856 km international border with Bangladesh, most of which is covered by a barbed wire fence, but a few patches remain unfenced. (Representative Photo) The deceased, identified as Tara Miah was a resident of Muraicharra in Bangladesh’s Moulvibazar district. Police said his body was taken to Kailasahar district hospital for a postmortem. According to police, the Bangladeshi national, suspected of involvement in smuggling Burmese cigarettes, was allegedly carrying out smuggling activities at midnight on Saturday in the IBB area at Maguruli. When on-duty officers spotted a group of smugglers and attempted to stop them, the smugglers allegedly tried to attack the BSF personnel. The personnel then fired two rounds from their rifles, injuring the Bangladeshi national and causing his death. A passenger who allegedly tried to open the emergency exit of a Kuala Lumpur-Kochi flight has been booked for attempt to murder, officials said on Saturday. The man had made the attempt inside the Kochi-bound flight on Wednesday (August 5) and was arrested the next day. The incident occurred mid-flight between 9:30 pm and 11:05 pm. According to official sources, four people were apprehended by the Nedumangad police in Chullimanoor late on Thursday in connection with a dispute over a football match.
