Emphasising that the exercise had nothing to do with politics, the Chief Minister urged people in the State to participate in the process. He stressed that the census was a constitutional obligation. “The Government of India sent a letter to the previous West Bengal government on May 16, 2025, calling on it to start the census. I will not politicise the issue, but I will say that it is unfortunate that the previous State government did not respond,” Mr. Adhikari said.
