Two killed, five fisherfolk women hurt as lorry hits autorickshaw near Kakinada

Representative image | Photo Credit: Aleksei Andreev Two persons, including the driver, died and five fisherfolk women survived with injuries after a lorry hit an autorickshaw, in which the fisherfolk were travelling, on the Samarlakota bridge near Kakinada on Wednesday (May 27, 2026). The deceased have been identified as Gampala Chittamma, 50, and the autorickshaw driver Iripalli Prem Kumar. The accident occurred while a group of six fisherfolk women belonging to Uppada were on their way to sell their fish in Kakinada city, Peddapuram Deputy Superintendent of Police Tilak said. The lorry was heading from Kurnool to Kakinada city. Mr. Tilak said five fisherfolk women are being treated at the Government General Hospital in Kakinada city. A case has been registered and the investigation is on. In a post on X, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan called the deaths of the two Uppada residents tragic.
