Hungrier Anmol Kharb challenges coach

Anmol Kharb is the latest badminton sensation in India. In her first tournament at Kazakhstan International Challenge since her inspiring performances at the Badminton Asia Team Championships, Anmol pulled off a few upsets, including a win each against Cassey Rynn Rompog and Malvika Bansod. But Anmol, the hero of India’s maiden Badminton Asia Team Championships winning team, is a single-minded player who loves challenges and does not get tired of training. In February, Anmol took the badminton world by surprise when she made her international debut at the continental team event in Shah Alam, Malaysia. Displaying her unwavering confidence, stylish gameplay and sheer confidence under pressure, she remained unbeaten in the tournament while propelling India to the historic title. Her coach Kusumm Singh, who trains Anmol at the Sunrise Academy in Noida, said the 17-year-old got hungrier since her magnificent shows in …

Lee Chong Wei suggests ‘drastic changes’ as Malaysia failed to win title at BATC 2024

Malaysian badminton legend Lee Chong Wei accused senior men’s players of lacking commitment and discipline as they lost 0-3 to China in the final at the Asia Team Championships in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. Lee, who retired from badminton in 2019, is doubtful about the future of Malaysian badminton after the host’s lacklustre performance in front of home fans in Shah Alam. Vimal Kumar laments lack of streaming of badminton, plans to write to I&B Ministry

The Indian women’s team created history in Shah Alam, Malaysia, on Sunday by winning the Badminton Asia Team Championships title, but many people have been deprived of witnessing the magnificent moment of Indian badminton in the country. There was no streaming in India and no live broadcasting of the tournament, not even on DD Sports, India’s government-owned national sports broadcaster. Though the YouTube channel of Badminton Asia Team Championships streamed India’s previous matches, including the women’s team’s thrilling win over Japan in the semifinals, there was apparently no live streaming of the final in India. The Indian fans had to search for theft streaming links on Google. Many fans watched PV Sindhu, Gayatri Gopichand, Treesa Jolly and Anmol Kharb scripting history on Malaysian channel Astro SuperSport 4’s illicit streaming link. Badminton is one of India’s most prominent sports with players regularly bringing home international glory, including World Tour titles and Olympic medals. The Indian men’s team in 2022 won the world’s biggest team title Thomas Cup, and now the women’s team brought the Asian glory. …

In the final, they doubled up India’s lead by clinching another three-gamer (21-16, 18-21, 21-16) against Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Pranjongjai, who are ranked 13 places above Treesa and Gayatri in the world rankings. Treesa and Gayatri were also crucial to India’s 3-2 win over China in the group stage, as they helped India draw level in the tie with a three-game win to set the stage for Anmol, who defeated …
