All England badminton: Lakshya Sen faces Jonatan test in second round | Badminton News

Ahead of his opening round at the All England Open, former finalist Lakshya Sen was thrown a curveball. In the lead-up he was preparing for Japan’s Koki Watanabe, but when the draw was finalised after withdrawals on Monday, Chinese Taipei’s Su Li Yang was promoted in Watanabe’s place, and it reflected in the way the Indian started the match. “It was a tricky one,” Lakshya told BWF after his 13-21, 21-17, 21-15 win. In the first game, the Indian seemed taken aback and not at his best. “I just got to know the previous evening that I’m playing him. Su is a tough opponent and I couldn’t find my rhythm in the first game… but I’m happy with the way I stuck in there. He’s quite an attacking player from the net, and he came in with a good approach. This is something for me to keep in mind going forward, I need to start better.”On Thursday, starting better will be a non-negotiable for Lakshya. In front of him will be a player keen to …

All England Open: PV Sindhu stumped by Kim Ga Eun’s crosscourt puzzle, knocked out in the first round | Badminton News

At 20-12 in the first game of her first-round match at the All England Open, PV Sindhu appeared to be in complete control against Kim Ga Eun. The World No. 21, at her best, has a typically sturdy Korean defence that can’t be breached easily. Just a few seconds before Sindhu had all those game points, Kim won a point she had no right winning… first retrieving the shuttle off balance after it hit the net cord and changed direction, and then playing a defensive block while squatting when Sindhu had a kill shot lined up at the net. It was the first sign of a Korean revival. From 12-20, Kim won seven straight points as Sindhu’s radar started misfiring. The Indian did win the first game 21-19 eventually, but that was from a wild error by Kim and the reaction from Sindhu said it all. There was no joy, just frustration mixed in with some relief. She was in the lead, but could sense the Korean taking charge. That run of points at the …

From Indian contenders to live streaming guide, all you need to know about big-ticket badminton event

The All England Open starts on Tuesday with some of India’s top shuttlers like PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and the Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty pairing in action. With a rich history, the All England is one of the most prestigious events on the yearly badminton calendar. Here’s a look at what the draw looks like for Indians: Lakshya Sen: Though Sen will have father DK Sen and Korean Yoo Yong-Sung in his coaching corner guiding him through a relatively simple draw, the word out of Bengaluru is that women’s head coach Indonesian Irwansyah is likely to offer key inputs to the Sen campaign, having been based out of the Padukone academy these past months. Sen’s path is littered with extremely beatable names – Koki Watanabe, Jonatan Christie, Li Shifeng/HS Prannoy and Shi Yuqi in the top half. That would count as a good draw with Axelsen mired in the bottom half with very tricky Chinese and Japanese, besides compatriot Anders Antonsen. At the All England event, the Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty pairing (LEFT) …

Thailand Open 2024 Final Live Updates: Satwik-Chirag in action shortly, take on China’s Chen Bo Yang and Liu Yi | Badminton News

On Saturday, they produced a dominant performance against Ming Che Lu/Kai Wei Tang of Chinese Taipei 21-11, 21-12 in the men’s doubles semifinal. (BWF/Badminton Photo) Thailand Open: Satwik-Chirag seek that familiar feeling of winning as they reach another final in Bangkok Potentially, the world No 1 ranking is in sight once again for Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, but at this point on the men’s doubles circuit, it’s a game of musical chairs. It’s changing frequently enough for it to not matter as much in the bigger picture. In the here and now, what matters is good rhythm in the lead-up to the Paris Olympics. The warm fuzzy feeling that comes with winning matches consistently. During the Thomas Cup title defence recently, that feeling went missing for Satwik-Chirag. In what has otherwise been a fine season, they struggled for rhythm in Chengdu. And that is why reaching the final of the Thailand Open will be a timely boost. On Saturday, they produced a dominant performance against Ming Che Lu/Kai Wei Tang of Chinese Taipei 21-11, …

‘Hero-style, hates to lose’: Meet 17-year-old shuttler who clinched a rare win over China | Badminton News

ANMOL KHARB loves a good one-liner, and doesn’t particularly care about traditional festivals if they come in the way of her badminton practice. On Diwali, she demanded to know from coach Kusum Singh why she couldn’t pack in a morning training session when all the revelry and fireworks happen in the evening. And on Rakshabandhan, she coolly declared, “I’ll protect myself. I don’t need rakhi.” At Shah Alam in Malaysia on Wednesday, though, the 17-year-old playing India’s fifth match and third singles gave her teammates and coaches plenty of reasons to break into noisy celebrations. Tied at 2-2, Anmol kept an icy cool temperament and hit consistent winners to defeat Chinese Wu Luo Yu 22-20, 14-21, 21-18 and nick a rare 3-2 team victory against China at the Badminton Asia Team Championships. China had fielded a second-string side, Luo Yu is ranked only No 149, and India were already assured a quarters spot. P V Sindhu and Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand set the tone to defy an always formidable Chinese unit, and Anmol pulled off the …

A Saina Nehwal-fan, now star in the making: Anmol Kharb who helped India beat China 3-2 at the Badminton Asia Team Championships | Cricket News

Her bearing on court and her strong mind are both reminiscent of a young Saina Nehwal. On Wednesday, she delivered a Nehwalesque KO blow to the Chinese. National champion Anmol Kharb took to the court for her first and big International outing against Chinese Wu Luo Yu in the Badminton Asian Team Championship, with the India-China tie poised critically at 2-2. From thereon, the gutsy youngster, 18, was nerveless as she scored a sensational 22-20, 14-21, 21-18 win to give India a memorable 3-2 result over China in a women’s team event. It is only the group stages, and China were at the event with a second-string side, both teams assured of quarters. But after PV Sindhu and Treesa-Gayatri pulled two matches against higher ranked Chinese, it fell on the debutant Anmol’s shoulders to take a shot at a 3-2 result. And the youngster showed outstanding temperament and fine hitting sass even under pressure and when tiring, to give India a solid win against the arch rivals. The Haryana youngster, now 17, was at Panchkula …
