Sindhu, Arjun-Hariharan make Round 2 at Indonesia

Sindhu, Arjun-Hariharan make Round 2 at Indonesia

2 min readUpdated: Jun 2, 2026 11:18 PM IST PV Sindhu took her dominance over Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan to 21-1 head-to-head after advancing to Round 2 of the Indonesia Open Super 1000. The Indian who made Top 10 this week got into a bit of a muddle in the first set, but won 25-23, 21-16 to extend her sway over the retrieving Thai. However, she could immediately run into Korean World No 1 An Se-young, who has a 9-0 stranglehold over Sindhu. However, given that earlier is better in facing up to the dominant figure, Sindhu will try to make her good form work for her and make inroads into her game on Thursday. This was Sindhu’s 11th straight win over Busanan. Playing at the sport’s mightiest coliseum, the Istora Senayan, India’s No 2 men’s doubles pair of MR Arjun and Hariharan Amsakarunan also registered a straight sets victory over Malaysia’s 2016 Olympic medalist Tan Wee Kiong and his current partner Nur Mohd Azriyn. Arjun-Hari hit the groove and managed a straight sets win over …

Coach Mathias Boe reunites with Satwik-Chirag

The Danish legend and Olympic medallist Mathias Boe has rejoined Indian men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty’s team as a consultant. Boe, who had parted ways with the Indian pair after their unexpected quarter-final exit at the 2024 Paris Olympics two years ago, returned to the setup as a consultant. The 45-year-old Boe himself announced his return on social media, stating that he started working with Rankireddy and Shetty just before the 2026 Thomas Cup, where India bagged a bronze medal. “Since I now have a bit more time on my hands, pre Thomas Cup I have secretly started working with Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty again,” he wrote in a post. “This time as a consultant and sparring for Tan Kim Her, where my focus is going to be on the tactical aspects and match analyses, while coach Tan will stay full time with them,” added Boe. Boe revealed that he’ll continue working with Rankireddy and Shetty for the upcoming 2026 BWF World Championships in Delhi and will feature in the coaching …

Is PV Sindhu’s game ready for week-in, week-out struggles of the Tour? | Badminton News

Is PV Sindhu’s game ready for week-in, week-out struggles of the Tour? | Badminton News

That PV Sindhu’s career evolution still gets discussed is a testimony to her blazing desire to fight for the biggest titles, even at age 30. Those who want it badly, mostly can. And she’s no different from a Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Leander Paes, Harmanpreet Singh, Harmanpreet Kaur or Vinesh Phogat, whose stubborn drive to win at an older age gets them to work harder despite all the obstacles of ageing. Internationally, Sindhu has Ratchanok Intanon and Nozomi Okuhara for company, and social media to send out frequent reminders that she’s going nowhere into a sunset. Danish player Tine Baun née Rasmussen, similarly tall and strongly built, won All England titles at a similar age. After returning to the top 10 this week, Sindhu has proven that her endeavours are worth it. If other youngsters fancy qualifying for the LA Olympics, they will need to similarly get into the top 16, or go past Sindhu in the rankings. There’s a bunch of eight or nine capable of achieving it, just like Sindhu joined Saina at …

Satwik-Chirag beat world champions Seo-Kim to reach Singapore Open Super 750 final | Badminton News

5 min readUpdated: May 30, 2026 06:59 PM IST Not fearless, but forged. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were 8-13 down in the first set against the world champions. They won 21-19, 21-18. Defeating world champions and top seeds Seo Seung-jae and Kim Won-ho of Korea, the Indians reached successive finals in the month of May at the Singapore Open Super 750. This was their first win over the Koreans, who came in on a 34-match winning streak, unbeaten across seven tournaments since last autumn. For the tall Indians, constantly facing the headwinds of the flat game and service return troubles, it was a massive release of pressure — not only did they out-skill Seo Seung-jae, a contemporary doubles great, but they came back from trailing positions in both sets. “The way we were playing, even when we were down we backed each other up. We knew they crack at some time if we stick to our plans. Points would eventually come. We had that belief,” Chirag told BWF. The path from 9-13 to 17-17 …

Singapore Open 2026: Satwik-Chirag, Dhruv-Tanisha in semis

Singapore Open 2026: Satwik-Chirag, Dhruv-Tanisha in semis

India’s men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty and mixed doubles pair Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto advanced to the semifinals of the Singapore Open 2026 on Friday. Fourth seeded Satwik-Chirag fought back from a game down to defeat the Malaysia’s Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai 19-21, 21-17, 21-13 in a battle lasting 65 minutes. The Indians then fought through a neck-and-neck second game before forcing a decider and dominated the third to secure their semifinal spot. They will next face reigning world champions and world no.1 pair Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae of Korea. In mixed doubles, Dhruv-Tanisha progressed after third seed Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei of Malaysia retired during the opening game. The Indian pair will next face Japan’s Yuichi Shimogami and Sayaka Hobara for a place in the final. In men’s singles, All England 2026 runner-up Lakshya Sen went down fighting against Japan’s Koki Watanabe 19-21, 21-15, 15-21 in a 68-minute clash. Meanwhile, PV Sindhu’s campaign ended in the quarterfinals following a 21-17, 21-14 loss …

Is breaking An Se-young’s zonal-defense, the silver bullet for PV Sindhu?

Is breaking An Se-young’s zonal-defense, the silver bullet for PV Sindhu?

An Se-young, the Olympic champion, the most dominant women’s singles shuttler of this era, is credited with wiping out the golden generation that came together circa 2013. PV Sindhu was just one amongst 8 top names that the Korean 24-year-old flicked out of the nucleus of greatness, like a carrom striker. Sindhu has now won just the solitary set against the win-machine, and the head-to-head reached 0-9 after Friday’s loss for the Indian at the Super 750 Singapore Open. Sindhu, or for that matter anybody else, is not winning any title unless they go past Se-young. The Korean has lost only one match – the All England final – against Wang Zhi Yi in 2026. And the 21-17, 21-14 scoreline will gather dust in the archives of Se-young’s supreme dominance. Except, for 20-odd minutes, Sindhu had Se-young under the pump. And the way Se-young celebrated the win after 48 minutes and grimaced through the first set, pointed to a vulnerability that a sturdier Sindhu could’ve once exposed to turn the knife in. It would be …

Sindhu, Satwik-Chirag march into quarters

Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and the men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty stormed into the quarterfinals of the 2026 Singapore Open Super750 Tournament on Thursday. Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu beat Japan’s Riko Gunji 21-9, 21-12 in just 37 minutes in the women’s singles Round of 16. She will now meet world no. 1 An Se Young in the quarterfinals. In the men’s doubles, fourth seed Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy beat Chinese Taipei’s Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan 21-15, 11-21, 21-18. The Indian pair took an hour to wrap up the contest. Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto to progressed to the quarterfinals, defeating Japanese pair Yuta Watanabe and Maya Taguchi in a gruelling three sets of mixed doubles match. The Indian pair prevailed 8-21, 21-17, 21-16 in 58 minutes. In the men’s singles, Lakshya Sen also advanced after his Thai opponent and World no 2 Kunlavut Vitidsarn retired at 0-2. Later in the day HS Prannoy will be up against Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew. Disclaimer: We do not own any of …

Prannoy turns table on World No 5 Jonatan Christie for first win over him since 2021

Prannoy turns table on World No 5 Jonatan Christie for first win over him since 2021

5 min readMay 27, 2026 04:35 PM IST HS Prannoy hadn’t defeated Top 5 regular, Indonesian Jonatan Christie since January of 2021. In fact he had only one win to show from his last 8 matches against the consistent Jojo since 2018. But top players – Jojo is World No 5 currently – have always known how dangerous the 33-year-old Indian can be. On Wednesday he defeated the Indonesian 10-21, 21-12, 21-18 with a typical Prannoying-playbook at the Super 750 Singapore Open. In the Singapore Indoor Stadium which commentators call the ‘Hairdryer arena’ because of its bellicose drift, that maddens the shuttle flight, Prannoy showed what complete, cerebral badminton can be. His ranking hovers close to his age these days, it’s No 35 this week. But the double-medallist from Thomas Cups, who has medals at World Championships, Asian Games, Asian Championships and the Malaysia Masters, took out Christie with a mix of psychological pressure and supreme racquet skills. It tends to get overlooked because Kidambi Srikanth’s game was so elegant and Lakshya Sen’s style is …

PV Sindhu wards off World No 6 Putri Kusuma Wardani with gritty net play in Singapore Open Super 750

PV Sindhu wards off World No 6 Putri Kusuma Wardani with gritty net play in Singapore Open Super 750

Not making World No 1 – yet – never interfered with Sindhu’s claims to greatness. So, nine years after the 30-year-old reached the pinnacle of her ranking at World No 2, in April of 2017, a clamber back into the Top 10s, can be viewed from two different lenses. The flattering way to see it, is her longevity and drive to stay in the mix, even as a generational transition is stuttering towards permanence in women’s singles. Avenging her loss to Indonesian Putri Kusuma Wardini from last year’s World Championship, Sindhu defeated the 23-year-old 21-17, 21-18 quite comfortably at the Super 750 Singapore Open. It gives her a second chance to cement her place in Top 10 this year after a brief week in March. Besides seedings leading up to World Championships at home, there’s no material edge a Top 10 spot offers. But at this stage of her career, a good seeding at the home event could be make-or-break for Sindhu to avoid top 3 early. These things didn’t use to matter to the …
