Tried and Tested: I finally found a suitcase that survived airport baggage handling

The Swiss Military Lithane suitcase, after four flights and a Disney cruise, still looks almost new without using a protective cover. (Hindustan Times) Airport baggage handling and I have never had the best relationship. Over the years, I have collected suitcases with scratched shells, chipped corners, stiff wheels and handles that suddenly developed a wobble after just a handful of flights. At this point, I almost expect checked luggage to come back looking a little worse for wear. It is one of the reasons I have never been particularly attached to a suitcase, no matter how impressive it looked on the day I bought it. So, for my recent holiday from Bhopal to Delhi, onward to Singapore for the Disney Adventure cruise and back home again, I decided not to baby my luggage. No protective cover. No wrapping it in plastic. I wanted to know how the Swiss Military Lithane would cope with the same treatment every checked suitcase goes through, from conveyor belts and baggage carts to airport trolleys, taxi boots and cruise terminal …

Ramanand Sagar’s grandson reviews Ramayana trailer, objects to Ranbir Kapoor’s casting: ‘He has baggage after Animal’

It is hard to match the legacy of legendary director and producer Ramanand Sagar, who created the iconic 1987 television series Ramayan. However, Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Ramayana has been creating significant buzz ever since its trailer was released. Now, Ramanand’s grandson, Shiv Sagar, has shared his review of the film’s trailer. Actor Ranbir Kapoor is portraying Ram in the film Ramayana ‘Didn’t care for other actors apart from Yash’ While Shiv praised the film’s VFX and appreciated the casting of Sai Pallavi and Yash, he was critical of Ranbir Kapoor’s casting as Lord Ram. In the clip posted by Tooth Mountain Farms that is now going viral, Shiv said, “I saw the trailer, and of course, the trailer was much better than the promo because the teaser that they had put out before had very little information. In the trailer, we could see more of the characters and more of the VFX, and also they revealed Ravan, which is played by Yash.” Praising Yash and Sai Pallavi’s casting as Ravana and Sita, he said, “Overall, I …

Indian Railways adds online excess baggage option to ticket booking

Indian Railways adds online excess baggage option to ticket booking

Passengers travelling by train can now book and pay for excess luggage online while reserving their tickets, as Indian Railways on Friday rolled out a new digital facility aimed at making the travel process more convenient.  The service integrates excess luggage booking with the online ticket reservation system, eliminating the need for passengers to visit parcel offices separately before boarding. Previously, travellers carrying baggage beyond the free allowance had to complete a separate booking process at railway parcel counters, often leading to additional paperwork and long queues. The online excess luggage booking facility is available only to passengers holding confirmed tickets and is restricted to travel classes where carrying luggage beyond the free allowance is permitted upon payment of the prescribed charges. Passengers travelling in AC First Class, AC 2-Tier, First Class, Sleeper Class and Second Class can avail of the service. However, those travelling in AC 3-Tier and AC Chair Car will not be eligible, as the maximum permissible baggage limit in these classes is the same as the free luggage allowance. Under the …

Twinkle Khanna’s ‘travel lighter’ message highlights burden of emotional baggage | Destination-of-the-week News

4 min readNew DelhiJun 5, 2026 01:00 AM IST Travel is often associated with freedom, discovery, and a break from everyday routines. Yet many people find themselves carrying more than they need—whether it is overpacked suitcases, unrealistic expectations, lingering worries, or unresolved emotional burdens. Actor-turned-author Twinkle Khanna recently reflected on this idea in an Instagram post shared from her vacation. Accompanying a photograph from her travels, she offered a simple suggestion: “Travel lighter this year.” DISCLAIMER: This article is based on information from the public domain and/or the experts we spoke to. She then extended the idea beyond luggage, writing, “We all carry baggage, and like airline counters, the heavier the bags, the greater the penalty.” Her message drew a parallel between physical baggage and the emotional burdens that many people accumulate over time. Acknowledging that letting go is rarely straightforward, she added, “We may never get rid of it all, but with enough practice and perhaps even the right therapist, we can learn to downsize our baggage so it’s small enough to stow in …

Baggage curbs at Srinagar airport force returning Hajj pilgrims to stopover at Ahmedabad

Baggage curbs at Srinagar airport force returning Hajj pilgrims to stopover at Ahmedabad

Due to a NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions) issued for Srinagar Airport and ongoing runway maintenance resulting in temporary runway length restrictions, payload limitations have been imposed on aircraft operations in the interest of flight safety, according to the Ministry of Minority Affairs. The officials in Jammu and Kashmir discussed Covid situation and starting international flights from Srinagar airport at a meeting earlier this week. (File Photo/Twitter/@srinagarairport) To avoid disruption to Hajj flight schedules and minimise inconvenience to pilgrims, the return journey of Hajj pilgrims operated by Akasa Airlines to the Srinagar Embarkation Point has been planned via Ahmedabad with 35 kg check-in baggage allowance up to Ahmedabad. Thereafter, 5 kg check-in baggage per pilgrim will be carried on the Ahmedabad-Srinagar flight, while the remaining 30 kg baggage will be transported separately by road to Srinagar. There is no change in the cabin baggage allowance. These arrangements have been necessitated solely by airport operational constraints and aviation safety requirements. The Ministry of Minority Affairs, Hajj Committee of India and J&K State Hajj Committee are in …

T20 World Cup: Perennial underdogs New Zealand finally carry no baggage of missed opportunities in big finals | Cricket News

5 min readUpdated: Mar 6, 2026 05:06 PM IST As Sunday’s T20 World Cup final, where New Zealand take on hosts and pre-tournament favourites India, inevitably triggers all sorts of David vs Goliath comparisons, it may be worth remembering a defining day in Melbourne, 11 years ago. They say Australian hearts only bleed for their cricket team when they are playing in white flannels. But go back and listen to the pop of the maximum-capacity MCG crowd when Mitchell Starc’s devilish yorker castled the stumps of Brendon McCullum in the first over of the 2015 World Cup final. It’s a moment that impacted the myth-making around both players involved. McCullum, as captain and opening batter, had set the attacking template that made New Zealand a pleasing crowd favourite in their home tournament. The hype around them had been enormous, especially after they won a nerve-wracking semifinal over South Africa. But Starc’s ball, full and moving in, among the first big-stage moments in the career of the game’s greatest left-arm pacer since Wasim Akram – blunted …

‘There’s baggage’: Ravi Shastri says Babar Azam has ‘weight of expectation’ on him | Cricket News

3 min readFeb 9, 2026 12:47 PM IST There has been plenty of talk about Pakistan cricket talisman Babar Azam’s spot in the team after he could only manage a sedate 18-ball 15-run innings in Pakistan’s T20 World Cup opener against the Netherlands where Pakistan won with three balls to spare and with just three wickets in hand. Former India cricketer and national team coach Ravi Shastri says that Babar is fighting the weight of expectations that come along with being at the “stage of his career” that Babar is in. “When you are at that stage of your career, there’s baggage,” said Shastri in a conversation with Ricky Ponting and Sanjana Ganesan on the latest episode of The ICC Review. “There’s a weight of expectation. People expect you to go out there and deliver. Get out there (and) in your first five balls, I don’t care if you get out, but I want you to make an effort to hit a couple of boundaries. Choose your spot, get into good positions, anticipate what the …

‘Don’t carry baggage of my success in another country’: When Priyanka Chopra said she’s self-assured enough to take auditions in Hollywood; how to emulate her confidence | Feelings News

3 min readNew DelhiJan 31, 2026 12:00 AM IST There’s something undeniably refreshing about the way Priyanka Chopra talks about her journey from Bollywood to Hollywood. For someone who was already a massive star in India, you’d think she’d expect a red carpet rolled out in the West, too. But she didn’t. Instead, she chose to show up, start fresh, and work hard — all over again. In an interview, Priyanka said something that really hits home for anyone trying to make it in a new space: “Comfortable is boring to me. I’m not arrogant. I’m self-assured. I know when I walk onto a set, I know what I’m doing. I don’t need validation of executives. I’m willing to walk in with my showreel and show people the work that I’ve done. I’m willing to take auditions. I’m willing to do the work. I don’t carry the baggage of my success in another country when I walk into another country.” This isn’t just about acting. It’s about having the courage to start over without letting your …
