File | Photo Credit: ANI The Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) has urged educational institutions, organisations and the public to give priority to identifying talented children, particularly girls, children from weaker sections, SC/ST communities and children with special needs, for the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP)-2026. In a statement, APSCHE Chairman K. Madhu Murty said many deserving children often remain unnoticed as they do not seek public attention, and said such achievers should be encouraged and nominated for national recognition. APSCHE said online nominations and recommendations for the PMRBP-2026 were being invited through the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal (awards.gov.in). Instituted by the Government of India, the award recognises the achievements of children below 18 years of age as on July 31, 2026, at the national and international levels. Bal had allegedly made an extortion call to a Payal-based arthiya (commission agent) Avinashpreet Singh Jalla following which Giaspura, who is the local MLA and was sitting along with him, took the phone and allegedly spoke to the gangster for nearly 15 minutes. According to the MLA, the gangster threatened him and said: “I will kill you, film and upload a video of it.” In the past one month, the Khanna Police has registered at least three FIRs against Bal and his accomplice Shaganpreet Singh, for allegedly making threat calls to businessmen, commission agents and others in Khanna, Doraha and Payal towns of Ludhiana district. Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would have “died of malnutrition” if his late father, Sena founder Bal Thackeray, had not come to its rescue, news agency PTI reported. Speaking at a rally in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar ahead of the January 15 civic elections in the city and across the state, the former Maharashtra Chief Minister took aim at the BJP following a remark by its leader Raosaheb Danve, who had said that “every political party has eaten out of our plate”, implying that all parties had received help from the BJP at some point.
