After T20 World Cup fiasco, new Bangladesh sports minister keen to mend ties with India: ‘Want to resolve this issue quickly’ | Cricket News

3 min readFeb 18, 2026 11:23 AM IST A potential reset in ties between Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) could be on the horizon following political change in Bangladesh. Newly-appointed State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque signalled a desire to rebuild relations with India, stressing dialogue and cooperation. Relations between the two neighbours had worsened in the recent months after the Bangladesh cricket team declined to travel to India for its group-stage fixtures at the 2026 T20 World Cup, citing security concerns. Their move was in reaction to Kolkata Knight Riders’ decision to release Mustafizur Rahman from their squad on the BCCI’s direction. Following the recent election victory of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, however, the new government has indicated it wants to recalibrate ties. Speaking after his swearing-in ceremony, Haque disclosed details of his initial diplomatic outreach. “After attending the oath-taking ceremony, I met with the Deputy High Commissioner of India at the Parliament building. I discussed this matter (T20 World Cup issue) with …

Sri Lanka break silence in T20 World Cup controversy: ‘India, Pakistan, Bangladesh are all friendly nations’ | Cricket News

3 min readJan 30, 2026 02:05 PM IST Sri Lanka Cricket has stated that it has strategically chosen to maintain silence on the controversy around Bangladesh, Pakistan, India and the T20 World Cup as all three are friendly nations for it. The buildup to the 2026 T20 World Cup has been overshadowed by Bangladesh being dropped from the tournament after refusing to travel to India. This was followed by Pakistan indicating that they may pull out of the tournament as well but the likelihood has reduced in subsequent days, with the Pakistan Cricket Board also announcing their squad for the tournament. Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary Bandula Dissanayake told AFP Colombo that it wanted to avoid being drawn into regional disputes. “In these disputes among India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, we are remaining neutral; all of these are friendly nations,” he said. However, he added that Sri Lanka would be willing to host future tournaments for any of the countries if asked. Bangladesh refused to go to India citing security concerns after fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was …

T20 World Cup: After Bangladesh ouster, Scotland to depart for India early to acclimatise | Cricket News

Seventeen years after they stepped in for Zimbabwe, who were replaced in the 2009 T20 WC edition at England, Scotland will once more benefit from political tensions as Bangladesh refuse to travel to India, and are told by ICC to keep out of the 2026 India-hosted edition. While the politics bubbles over in the subcontinent, Scotland have declared they are “always ready” to compete, as they respond to the last minute invite, to be part of the India hosted World Cup. “We also acknowledge that this opportunity has arisen out of challenging and unique circumstances. Our squad have been training for some weeks in preparation for upcoming tours and are now preparing to arrive in India imminently to acclimatise to local conditions, ready to play and contribute to what should be a fantastic ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” Trudy Lindblade, Cricket Scotland Chief Executive, was quoted as saying. ICC threatens Pakistan with sanctions: No bilateral series, Asia Cup exclusion, no NOCs for PSL overseas players  | Cricket News

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is reportedly unhappy with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi’s recent comments supporting Bangladesh,The Indian Express has learned. Sources told The Indian Express that if Pakistan follows a similar path and decides not to participate in the tournament, the ICC could impose sanctions. These may include suspension of all bilateral series, denial of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for foreign players in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), and exclusion from the Asia Cup. “If Pakistan also decides not to play the T20 World Cup, the ICC will impose a series of sanctions, including no bilateral series with any international team, no NOC for foreign players in PSL, and no Asia Cup participation,” a source said. Naqvi had earlier criticized the ICC for “double standards,” saying Bangladesh was treated unfairly. He added that Pakistan’s participation in the World Cup would be decided at the highest government level, pending Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s return from abroad. “Bangladesh has been treated unfairly. One country can make any decision whenever, while it is the opposite …

Bangladesh reiterate they will not play T20 World Cup in India, says ‘still hopeful of justice from ICC’ | Cricket News

Bangladesh on Thursday reiterated that the country’s national men’s team wants to play the T20 World Cup but won’t travel to India to do so. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam and Sports Advisor Asif Nazrul had a high-level meeting with the Bangladesh cricketers and said in a press conference after that they want to play the World Cup in Sri Lanka. They also added that they are “still hopeful of justice from ICC”. “While our cricketers have worked hard to qualify for the World Cup, the security risk regarding playing in India remains unchanged. This concern is not based on abstract analysis. We are not convinced that they can ensure the safety of our entire team, journalists, and spectators. We are not giving up hope yet; our team is ready. We expect the ICC to provide justice by considering our genuine security risks and allowing us to play in Sri Lanka,” Nazrul said. “It is crucial to weigh the loss of not playing against the potential catastrophe of pushing players, fans, and journalists …

Pakistan should boycott T20 World Cup over Bangladesh issue: Rashid Latif | Cricket News

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has said Pakistan should consider boycotting the T20 World Cup in protest after the International Cricket Council (ICC) rejected Bangladesh’s request to move its matches out of India. “If Pakistan and India don’t happen, 50 per cent of your World Cup is gone. This is a great opportunity to challenge the existing cricket order,” Latif said on the YouTube channel CaughtBehindShow. “Pakistan should say they stand with Bangladesh and refuse to play the T20 World Cup. This is the time to take a stand. You need a strong heart to do it.” Latif criticised the ICC’s handling of the issue, saying its assurance on security was flawed. “It doesn’t feel like a good decision. Today, the ICC says there is no danger to Bangladeshi players in India. No agency in the world can say there is no danger — how can the ICC say that?” he said. “Even in the most secure places, no one can give such a guarantee. Hopefully, nothing happens to any team.” He further alleged political …

Bangladesh captain Litton Das: ‘We announced the squad but not sure if we will even play at T20 World Cup or not’ | Cricket News

Litton Das has said that the players are as much in the dark as anyone else about where, or if, Bangladesh will play the 2026 T20 World Cup. The Bangladesh captain said that there is still time for players to prepare and adapt if they play in the tournament, which is scheduled to start on February 7, but said that it would’ve helped to know who they were going to face in their group matches or which country they are going to play at this stage. Strained diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh has spilled on to the cricket field. With India co-hosting the 2026 T20 World Cup, the powers that be in Bangladesh have said that the team will not play in the country. This came after India expelled Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) citing “recent developments”. All of Bangladesh’s matches in the group stage are currently slated to be played in India. “If we had known who our group opponents were [in the World Cup] or …

ICC reiterates no change in T20 World Cup, refutes Bangladesh’s claim of ‘security risk’ | Cricket News

ICC reiterates no change in T20 World Cup, refutes Bangladesh’s claim of ‘security risk’ | Cricket News

The International Cricket Council (ICC) denied on Monday that a security risk assessment had concluded that it was unsafe for Bangladesh to play its T20 World Cup matches in India. Bangladesh’s sports advisor Asif Nazrul had earlier claimed that the world body’s own security assessment had recommended that the situation was not conducive for their team to travel across the border for the tournament which starts in less than a month’s time. But ICC sources close to the developments said that the risk assigned is “low to moderate” and there has been no change to the original itinerary for the mega event. “The ICC’s independent risk assessments, carried out by internationally recognised security experts, do not conclude that Bangladesh cannot play its scheduled matches in India. The overall security risk for the tournament in India has been assessed as low to moderate, which is consistent with the profile of many major global sporting events,” the source said, adding that “the assessments did not identify any specific or direct threat to the Bangladesh team, team officials, …

Call on Bangladesh seamer Mustafizur Rahman’s IPL ouster taken at top level in BCCI | Cricket News

The decision to instruct IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders to release Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman from its squad wasn’t the outcome of discussions among members of the Indian cricket board — the league’s governing council wasn’t consulted, either. “We ourselves got to know about this through the media. There was no discussion. No suggestion was taken from our side,” a top BCCI official, who is also associated with the IPL, told this newspaper. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia did not respond to a query from The Indian Express on whether a board meeting was convened or the IPL governing council kept in loop on the Mustafizur move. On Saturday, explaining the board’s stand on the issue, Saikia had said, “Due to the recent developments that are going on all across, BCCI has instructed the franchise KKR to release one of their players, Mustafizur Rahman of Bangladesh, from their squad.” On Monday, Bangladesh’s Information and Broadcasting ministry banned the telecast of IPL matches in their country, saying that the move “to release” Mustafizur “has hurt and angered …
