BSF arrests armed cadre of Bangladesh-based terror outfit in Tripura

Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on Monday arrested Apollo Chakma, an alleged armed cadre of the Parbotto Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) headed by Santu Larma, chairman of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Council. Chakma, a resident of Panchari in Khagrachari district of Bangladesh, was apprehended while attempting to cross the Indo-Bangladesh border through Gate No 2 of Amrit Para BSF camp in Dhalai district of Tripura. During the operation, BSF recovered a walkie-talkie set from his possession. He was handed over to Rashyabari Police Station. The police have registered a case against him under multiple charges, including cow smuggling and illegal entry into India. The PCJSS faction led by Larma has been described as a terrorist organisation by the Guwahati High Court in its judgment dated September 5, 2024, in the case of National Investigation Agency vs Rohmingliana, which pertained to arms smuggling by PCJSS cadres. The outfit is alleged to have transformed into an Indo-Bangladesh border smuggling syndicate and stands accused of involvement in trafficking of arms, drugs, Indian cows, and Burmese cigarettes. …

Intelligence agencies on Saturday issued an alert ahead of Republic Day, warning of a possible attempt by proscribed Khalistani outfits and Bangladesh-based terror organizations to target New Delhi and several other cities across the country. According to sources from the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Punjab-based gangsters are “acting as foot soldiers for Khalistani and radical handlers operating from abroad,” as they continue to establish links with “Khalistani terror elements”. “Ahead of January 26, intelligence agencies have issued an alert warning that Khalistani terrorist organisations and Bangladesh-based terror outfits may attempt to target New Delhi and several other cities across the country,” intelligence sources said. “Punjab-based gangsters are increasingly acting as foot soldiers for Khalistani and radical handlers operating from abroad. Bangladesh-based terror groups Harkat-ul-Jihad Islami (HuJI) and Jamaat-ul–Mujahideen are increasingly using their proxies while carrying out activities in India, news agency IANS reported, citing intelligence agencies.  The two terror groups are also looking to create homegrown outfits in India so that Bangladesh has the deniability factor. The terrorism by Bangladeshi agencies is similar to what the Lashkar-e-Tayiba or Jaish-e-Mohammad have been doing in India, IANS reported, citing intelligence agencies. The Lashkar-e-Tayiba uses groups such as ‘The Resistance Front’ for operations in Jammu and Kashmir.  In the case of the Jaish-e-Mohammad, the proxies are the People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAAF) and the Kashmir Tigers (KT).  While these terror groups are allegedly just proxies, both the Lashkar-e-Tayiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad are trying to pass them off as homegrown outfits. SILCHAR: Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) has arrested 11 people allegedly linked to a Bangladesh-based extremist network during a coordinated multi-state operation carried out on the intervening night of December 29–30, officials said on Tuesday. The crackdown began early in the morning when multiple teams searched the premises linked to the individuals suspected of supporting and funding the activities of al-Qaeda in Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, West Bengal, Bihar, Tripura, and Assam. “The searches led to the recovery of incriminating documents showing detailed banking transactions, digital devices, including mobile phones, and other evidence related to terror funding activities… as per NIA investigations, the suspects whose premises were raided are sympathisers of a Bangladesh-based al-Qaeda network,” said the agency.
