A training aircraft operated by Redbird crashed due to a technical snag in Maharashtra’s Baramati on Wednesday, officials said. The incident took place near Gojubavi village, adjacent to the Baramati airstrip area, triggering panic in the area. The incident occurred at 8.50 am, Pune Superintendent of Police Sandip Singh Gill told PTI. Aircraft was flying at low altitude before crash landing, say eyewitnesses “As per preliminary information received from eyewitnesses, the aircraft was flying at a comparatively low altitude when it developed a technical malfunction. During the crash landing, one side of the aircraft reportedly hit a light pole before it struck the ground,” he said. Trainee pilot escapes unhurt According to preliminary reports, the trainee pilot onboard escaped safely and did not suffer any major injuries. The exact cause of the crash, however, is yet to be ascertained. Addressing a press conference, Pawar dismissed the 22-page preliminary report of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on the crash as a “paperwork exercise” aimed at suppressing facts and destroying evidence. He alleged that the case was linked to a Rs 868 crore financial irregularity involving VSR Ventures. Phone calls and email to VSR Ventures  did not elicit any response. This is the fifth press conference held by Pawar seeking action against VSR. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others were killed in the fatal crash of the VSR Ventures-owned plane on January 28. In a statement, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) said the aircraft was equipped with two independent flight recorders. Both recorders were exposed to intense heat for a prolonged period during the accident and sustained fire damage, it said.
