Telangana government is taking steps to restore three barrages of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP). | Photo Credit: NAGARA GOPAL The Telangana Government has set in motion systematic and scientific efforts to salvage the damaged Medigadda, Sundilla and Annaram barrages of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP). Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said on Wednesday (November 12, 2025) the Government decided to engage independent, highly qualified technical institutions and consultants as the Central Designs Organisation (CDO) of the Irrigation Department was criticised by the investigating agencies. The decision was taken following the Central Water Commission’s advise that designs be prepared by well-qualified and experienced technical experts, which it would vet, approve and guide through execution. The Government had accordingly invited requests for proposals from reputed firms and preference was being given to those having formal understanding/tie-ups with premier institutions like IITs or other technical bodies of the Central Government. Patna, The Bihar government has sent detailed project reports to the Centre to construct more barrages in East Champaran, West Champaran and other districts bordering Nepal, the state assembly was informed on Tuesday. Bihar to construct more barrages as part of flood mitigation measures: Minister The project reports are part of the government’s flood mitigation measures. Water Resources Department minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said, “The Bihar government has sent detailed project reports pertaining to the construction of more barrages in East Champaran, West Champaran and other cities located along the Indo-Nepal border.” Construction works on the new barrages will start immediately after the Centre’s approval, he said. The minister made this announcement while concluding a discussion on the budget proposals of ₹7,451.14 crore for the WRD for the 2025-26 fiscal. The WRD’s budget for the next fiscal was passed in the assembly by voice vote amid a walkout by the opposition members. They staged the walkout alleging that adequate measures are not being taken to provide relief to the people affected by floods every year. …
