Cannes 2025: Wes Anderson ratchets up the whimsy in The Phoenician Scheme, doesn’t stick the landing | Entertainment News

Cannes 2025: Wes Anderson ratchets up the whimsy in The Phoenician Scheme, doesn’t stick the landing | Entertainment News

If whimsy had an address, it would be Wes Anderson, whose confections can either delight or dismay. His Cannes competition entry The Phoenician Scheme has nestled firmly into the latter for me: his latest flight of fancy, quite literally, with his lead character traversing the skies in a private jet, being ejected at regular intervals, turns the film into a survival manual. The film is set in the 50s. Benicio Del Toro plays Zsa Zsa Korda, a wealthy businessman who has a half-brother (Benedict Cumberbatch, almost unrecognisable under a thatched beard), a daughter who is a nun, and nine sons. If Korda wasn’t properly eccentric, he wouldn’t be a Wes character: accordingly, he decides to bequeath his empire to Liesl (Mia Threapleton), whether she likes it or not. His current preoccupation lies somewhere in the Middle East, and off they jump into the jet, along with Bjorn (Michael Cera), a young Norwegian expert on all manner of creepy crawlies, who has been hired as tutor to his offspring. We never know why Bjorn is not …

The Phoenician Scheme trailer: Europe’s famed oligarch teams up with his nun daughter for a high-stakes game in Wes Anderson’s spy comedy | Hollywood News

The Phoenician Scheme trailer: After surviving his sixth recorded airplane crash, Zsa-Zsa Korda (Benicio del Toro), one of the richest men in Europe, appoints his only daughter, Liesl (Mia Threapleton), a nun, as the sole heir to his estate. Interestingly, Korda made this decision by overlooking his nine sons. But why? And that too despite not sharing a close bond with his daughter? Notably, they hadn’t even met in six years before this new development. “I have my reasons,” he replies to her question, though he hesitates to elaborate. Yet, it soon becomes clear that he has a motive, and it is related to The Phoenician Scheme. The trailer for auteur director Wes Anderson’s upcoming movie is here, sparking just as much intrigue as his previous films have. While the 144-second promo begins by offering glimpses of Korda’s empire and family dynamics, it soon reveals that his current objective is to “disrupt, obstruct, impede and cripple Cortis Enterprise in any manner possible.” For this, he needs the help of his nun daughter. The trailer also shows …

From Tom Holland to Benedict Cumberbatch and More; 7 Biggest Omissions From Avengers: Doomsday Cast Announcement

Marvel Studios surely dragged the attention of its die-hards making the cast announcement for Avengers: Doomsday. It was just a few hours ago that almost all of the cast was announced for a grand ensemble that is now in production. While some big names and some heavy team-ups were announced recently, a lot of names were missing.  Marvel Studios has gathered a lot of new names and some from its previous entries, however, the major names–who are still a part of the franchise–were not seen during the cast announcement even though it was Robert Downey Jr. to end the hours-long play.  While we all know that Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen were not joining in for Avengers: Doomsday, following Jonathan Majors’ exit and the end of the Kang storyline, the cast announcement still shocked a lot watching it.  It was Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk as well as Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, and Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord, that were dearly missed, being the character from the 616 Universe.  Talking about Tom Holland, there are heavy …
