Blackmailed By Uncle Over Private Photos, Bengaluru Techie Dies By Suicide

A 24-year-old woman techie died after setting herself ablaze in a Bengaluru hotel room because she was allegedly repeatedly blackmailed by her uncle and aunt with her private photos and videos, police said on Thursday. The woman’s uncle, who is the prime accused, has been arrested and a detailed probe is underway, the police added. The woman took the extreme step at Radha Hometel, near Kundalahalli metro station, on Sunday evening, when her uncle forced her to meet him at the premises. According to Whitefield Deputy Commissioner of Police Shivakumar Gunar, the woman was initially reluctant to visit the hotel room, where her uncle was waiting, but was forced to do so after he threatened to share her private photos and videos with her parents.  The victim, however, carried some petrol that she poured on herself inside the room and set herself ablaze, police said. She succumbed to injuries in the hospital. The woman’s mother alleged her daughter had been staying with her uncle and aunt for six years, and would even go on trips …

New Delhi: The mother of Atul Subhash, the Bengaluru engineer who died by suicide on December 9, has approached the Supreme Court seeking custody of her four-year-old grandson. Subhash left behind video and written notes alleging harassment and false accusations from his wife and in-laws.   Anju Modi has filed a habeas corpus petition to secure the custody of her grandson whose whereabouts are unknown. The petition claims that neither Subhash’s estranged wife Nikita Singhania, nor her family members – currently in custody – have disclosed the child’s whereabouts.  Nikita reportedly told the police that the boy was enrolled in a Faridabad boarding school and in the custody of her uncle, Sushil Singhania. However, Sushil has denied any knowledge of the child’s location. Amid the outcry over Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash’s death by suicide over alleged harassment by his wife, Nikita Singhania, details have emerged of a complaint filed by her in 2022, alleging harassment and assault for dowry. Ms Singhania has alleged that he treated the husband-wife relationship “like a beast” and his family’s demand for dowry contributed to her father suffering a stroke and dying.  In his 24-page suicide note, however, Subhash has replied to nearly every allegation made in the complaint.
