Manjula, Assistant Revenue Officer (ARO) of the Herohalli Sub-Division (Bengaluru West City Corporation), over alleged illegal khata conversion, causing the loss of crores of rupees to the civic body. The order follows an investigation revealing her direct involvement in a massive, multi-crore illegal khata registration scam. The alleged fraudulent activities came to light following a detailed complaint filed by N.R. Ramesh, former Bengaluru South district BJP president and former councillor. The complaint alleged that Ms. Manjula had flouted statutory regulations to issue illegal ‘A-Khatas’ and ‘e-Khatas’ for over 50 individual plots located within an unauthorised layout. The properties are situated under Survey No. 56/1 in Herohalli village, Yeshwantpur hobli. Subsequent investigations conducted by civic officials allegedly confirmed severe, deliberate lapses. For the past several days, villagers have been opposing any form of alleged commercial activity on Malma Hills near Nelaji village. The hill is located close to the renowned Igguthappa temple, an important religious site for residents of the district, particularly the Kodava community. According to local residents, Sri M had purchased land on the hill, where cardamom and other crops were being cultivated. Villagers alleged that following the purchase, trees were cut, roads were constructed and ponds were created on the property. Evening showers on Saturday left several arterial and sub-arterial roads across the city waterlogged, leading to traffic snarls, vehicle breakdowns, and disruptions during peak hours. The situation was particularly severe in the eastern parts of the city, including Whitefield, Mahadevapura, and Varthur. HAL Airport Road, connecting to Varthur Road, was among the worst-hit stretches, with commuters struggling through knee-deep waterlogging. The severe inundation also led to multiple vehicle breakdowns, causing prolonged congestion. Even ambulance movement was hit. Commuters took to X to share their ordeal and questioned the functioning of the East Corporation despite it being the richest civic body. Speaking to reporters, Mr. Singh said seven rowdy-sheeters in Bengaluru and 66 across Karnataka are affected by orders directing the removal of their names from rowdy registers. “We are verifying the documents and examining the legal aspects to revoke the orders. The matter is also being discussed with the State police chief for necessary directions,” the Commissioner said.
