Missed The Vistadome? The Scenic Bengaluru–Mangaluru Train Is Running Again | Travel News

Last Updated:December 17, 2025, 13:07 IST Though the fare is slightly higher than standard seating, passengers often say the experience justifies the cost. For many, it feels like a short scenic holiday inside the train. Passengers often describe the ghat section as the highlight. Phones are put away, conversations pause, and eyes stay glued to the windows. After a six-month pause, one of South India’s most scenic train journeys is back on track. The Vistadome coach on the Bengaluru–Mangaluru route has resumed service, giving passengers a chance to experience the Western Ghats the way they were meant to be seen – slowly, comfortably, and through wide glass windows. The service was suspended earlier due to electrification work along the ghat section. With the work now completed, the return of the Vistadome has been welcomed by travellers who consider this journey less a commute and more a moving viewpoint through Karnataka’s green spine. More Than a Train, It’s the Journey For passengers boarding the train in Bengaluru, the experience begins long before the Ghats appear. As …

Pathetic condition of Bengaluru-Mangaluru NH 75 in Hassan and DK districts pinches holes in KSRTC’s pockets

KSRTC’s Mangaluru Division that operates nearly 570 premium services among other services, was suffering nearly Rs. 1.5 crore loss every month — about ₹1 lakh towards spare parts and nearly ₹50 lakh towards tyres — because of potholes, craters and uneven road surface in the two districts. While it had earned about ₹30 crore revenue a month in October-December 2023, the expenditure was about ₹29 crore a month.
