At least 18 people from Assam’s Tinsukia district were killed, and three others went missing as a truck fell into a deep gorge in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh, officials said on Thursday. The accident took place on Hayuliang-Chaglagam Road in Anjaw district in the eastern part of the hill state on December 8. Asian Games champion shuttler Satwiksairaj Rankireddy’s father R Kasi Viswanatham passed away on Thursday morning. As per reports, R Kasi Viswanatham succumbed to a cardiac arrest Satwik is currently in New Delhi for the 43rd PSPB Inter-Unit badminton tournament. He was scheduled to receive the prestigious Khel Ratna award on Thursday. Table tennis player Manika Batra’s father, Girish Batra, passed away on February 11 due to cardiac arrest. Girish was 65 and is survived by his daughter Manika and wife Sushma Batra. He was cremated on Tuesday, and a prayer ceremony for his departed soul will be held on Thursday. Girish played a pivotal role in Manika’s journey to becoming India’s top women’s singles table tennis player. Currently ranked 38th, Manika won gold medals in the women’s singles and women’s team events at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, along with a silver in women’s doubles and a bronze in mixed doubles.
