Beth Mooney’s light-hearted response to Jemimah Rodrigues’ quip: ‘I actually thought they weren’t going to let us back in for losing’ | Cricket News

After India’s Jemimah Rodrigues joked that she was not sure if she would be allowed to cross the Australian border to play the Women’s Big Bash League after her match-winning performance against the Aussies in the Women’s World Cup semifinals which knocked the defending champions out of the tournament, Beth Mooney replied with a light-hearted comment of her own. “We heard Jemi say earlier that she was worried they weren’t going to let her in the country because they beat us, but I actually thought they weren’t going to let us back in for losing. Thankfully immigration let me in,” Mooney said on the player mic while playing for the Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Sixers. Earlier, Rodrigues, who plays for the Brisbane Heat, had said on the sidelines of the BBL, “I was not sure if Australia would allow me to cross the border after the semifinals. But honestly, everyone has been so warm and welcoming, and everyone is so happy in general for the growth of women’s cricket. We know that it’s going to …

WPL 2025 Eliminator: Can Gujarat Giants avoid a 7th straight defeat against Mumbai Indians? | Football News

Whatever happens in the Women’s Premier League Eliminator on Thursday, Gujarat Giants can chalk down the 2025 season as an improvement. There cannot be arguments that, across the first two editions combined, they were the side that struggled the most in the tournament, finishing last on both occasions. But ahead of 2025, they made changes to the backroom staff, handed the captaincy over to Ashleigh Gardner from Beth Mooney, and added the star power to their lineup in the form of Deandra Dottin. In addition to all that, Kashvee Gautam – their big-money recruit before 2024 who ended up missing the season due to injury – has showcased her potential, especially with the ball in hand, emerging as one of the finds of the tournament for Indian cricket. It hasn’t been a flawless season by any means, but a place in the knockouts for the first time is one that Gardner and Co can relish. However, on Thursday at the Brabourne Stadium, they have to complete another first: beating Mumbai Indians. In the six meetings …

WPL 2025: Richa Ghosh, Sneh Rana shine but it’s the hope that kills as RCB’s playoff bid ends | Cricket News

Batting on 61 off 29, in the middle of the 16th over, Richa Ghosh took count of the fielding changes, then took a couple of deep breaths, calming herself down. Next ball, as Chinelle Henry strayed down the leg side, Ghosh just casually flicked the ball, and deposited it over the fence. RCB’s hopes of staying alive depended on her capable shoulders carrying the load of a mega run-chase. Next over, however, when Deepti Sharma bowled one in her arc, her eyes lit up and she went for another big heave over midwicket. But, this time, Henry was waiting. In a tournament where their catching was forgettable for the most part, the West Indies allrounder grabbed the ball cleanly and fell on her back, arms spread across in joy – and relief. Even though Sneh Rana smashed the first five balls she faced for two fours and three sixes in a stunning cameo to give her side hope, RCB’s tournament effectively ended when Ghosh’s knock came to an end. Sleeping Giants Beth Mooney, Laura Wolvaardt awaken as Gujarat flex batting muscle at top of the order | Cricket News

In an appraisal of a disastrous first half of this season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) for the Gujarat Giants, captain Beth Mooney was blunt. “Scoring a few more runs will be pretty helpful (in the future), probably from the skipper and then flowing through the rest of the team,” she said after a fourth successive defeat. As the league moved to New Delhi for, and her side’s chances of going past the group stage hung in the balance, Mooney, alongside opening partner Laura Wolvaardt, batted as if they had taken that self-criticism to heart. The duo toyed with the Royal Challengers Bangalore bowling attack and put on a 140-run partnership, as the Giants rammed their way to a 19-run win to open their account this year on Wednesday. She missed out on a well-deserved 💯 but Captain Beth Mooney led from the front with an excellent opening act! Beth Mooney back as captain of Gujarat Giants, Sneh Rana as deputy

With the second season of WPL around the corner, the Adani Sportsline-owned Gujarat Giants has announced that Australian batter Beth Mooney will captain the team and Indian all-rounder Sneh Rana will be her deputy. They will be part of the leadership group with head coach Michael Klinger, mentor and advisor Mithali Raj, and assistant coach Nooshin Al Khadeer. Mooney was appointed captain of Gujarat Giants in the inaugural season of WPL. However, she had to leave the tournament after the first game due to an injury. Mooney is one of the best batters in international T20 cricket. In addition to being part of the team that won the T20 World Cup in 2014, 2018, 2020 and 2023, she was also in the squad that won the 2022 ODI World Cup and Gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Despite being in the 2014 T20 World Cup-winning squad, she did not make her international debut for Australia till January 2016. In December 2017, she won both the inaugural ICC T20I Player of the Year and …
