The Boxing Federation of India (BFI)’s assessment camp is once again in the spotlight, as the Sports Ministry issued a show-cause notice on Monday regarding the fairness of the selection process. The ongoing camp in Patiala remains suspended, and the BFI will now have to restructure its selection criteria for the upcoming Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. The BFI’s national camp came under scrutiny last month after it added the 40 medal winners from the Chief of Army Staff Cup to the assessment camp. After several athletes questioned their exclusion from the COAS Cup on the grounds that they did not belong to the Army, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) intervened and paused the camp. According to reports, SAI said it could not sanction a camp in which boxers gained entry through a “closed” tournament, and questioned the fairness of the selection process. Supreme Court transfers all BFI election dispute to Delhi High Court

The Supreme Court, on Monday, transferred all litigation pertaining to the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) from the Himachal Pradesh High Court to the Delhi High Court. This was done to streamline the entire process and ensure that there is no conflicting judicial outcomes. A apex court bench comprising of justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh, passed the order stating that all the cases pending at the Himachal Pradesh High Court, including the one filed by former Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur will be disposed of. The petitioners will have the liberty to initiate fresh proceedings at the Delhi High Court. All parties involved in the legal tussle have agreed to the same. “Ideally, we should have the viewpoint of one high court,” the Supreme Court of India said. The Indian boxers Hardik Dahiya and Rudraksh Singh registered dominant victories on Day 1 of the Asian U-15 Boxing Championships in Amman, Jordan on Saturday. In the boy’s 43kg category quarterfinal, Hardik outclassed Kyrgyzstan’s Kubanychbek Bolushov in a one-sided match. He won 5-0. Rudraksh Singh, 46kg category, followed up with another clean sweep on all five cards, defeating Mongolia’s Ibrakhim Maral 5-0 in the round of 16. India fielded a 56-member squad in the tournament, having 30 boxers in the U15 categories and 26 boxers in the U17 category.
