Marathi compulsory in all schools in Maharashtra, violators face action: Dadaji Bhuse | Mumbai News

1 min readMumbaiMar 13, 2026 08:25 PM IST Marathi will remain a compulsory subject in all schools across Maharashtra, and institutions that fail to comply will face action, School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse told the Assembly on Thursday. Replying to a question by MLA Haroon Khan, Bhuse said a March 1, 2020 notification mandates Marathi as a subject in schools of all mediums and managements, including those affiliated to national and international boards. He said Marathi must be taught either as a second or third language and cannot be excluded under any circumstances. Bhuse added that in case of complaints the school cited will be inspected, and if violations are found, authorities will inform the management and take action. Warning of strict enforcement, the minister said continued non compliance could lead to cancellation of a school’s recognition. Bhuse hints at uniforms for teachers in Maharashtra’s govt schools | Mumbai News

Teachers in government-run schools in Maharashtra may soon sport uniforms. State School Education Minister Dada Bhuse on Friday said the school education department was considering such a move where district authorities can decide dress for teachers in government schools. While no decision has been taken yet, Bhuse said, “We are looking at the possibility of bringing such a policy. But right now the department is studying various aspects before taking any decision. The government is not going to decide on any one uniform for teachers across the state. But we are exploring if uniforms for teachers can be decided at the district or taluka level, so that the teaching community has a particular identity in that village or locally.” Bhuse said while attending an event on distribution of schoolbags at a zilla parishad school in Ajang village, Malegaon, he saw teachers wearing sarees of the same colour. “That served as an inspiration.
