Naidu’s roll of the laddoo, Nitish’s temple play: In BJP shadow, allies make their move | Political Pulse News

* Known for his technology-driven governance, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu alleges animal fat was added to laddoos distributed at the Tirupati temple when the government of his archrival Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was in power. * Almost eight months after the Ayodhya Ram Temple consecration, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar writes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, lauding him for the temple’s construction. Nitish also highlights his government’s scheme to develop Punaura Dham in Sitamarhi that is revered as the birthplace of Sita. While these moves of the BJP’s two most important allies have been projected as their increasing convergence with the BJP, a section of the ruling party sees this as attempts by its coalition partners “to keep their Hindu support base intact” and to stop it “being weaned away by the BJP”. Sources in Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) said though the Tirupati controversy primarily targeted Jagan Mohan Reddy, the “long-term benefit will be retaining our Hindu support base”. “Naidu’s is a tactical move to corner Jagan. He has not …

Bihar Trust Vote: Nitish Kumar and his alliance with the BJP has won the trust vote (File). Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the ‘born-again’ Janata Dal (United)-BJP government sailed through a trust vote Monday afternoon, after the opposition – the Rashtriya Janata Dal of ex-Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, the Congress and the Left Front – walked out of the Assembly. The final score was 130-0 in favour of the JDU-BJP alliance, which also managed to flip three vote from Mr Yadav’s RJD. The majority mark in the 243-member Assembly was set at 122. Amid unease about ‘BJP bid to split party’, 16 Bihar Congress MLAs flown to Hyderabad | Patna News

As 40 MLAs of Jharkhand’s ruling alliance of JMM and Congress returned to Ranchi on Sunday night, ahead of the Assembly floor test the following day, 16 of Congress’s 19 MLAs in neighbouring Bihar were flown from Delhi to Hyderabad because of fear in the party about an attempt to split it ahead of the trust vote scheduled for February 12. Though the Janata Dal (United), BJP, and the Hindustani Awam Morcha, with the support of an Independent, have 128 MLAs in the 253-member House, a clear majority, state Congress leaders said they were wary of the BJP trying to break away legislators to deal the Mahagathbandhan a crushing blow in the crucial battleground state. Any such move would mark a massive psychological victory for the BJP and further weaken the RJD-led alliance. “We have been hearing for some time about the BJP trying to split our party. They were first called to Delhi by the high command,” said a Bihar Congress leader. Another state Congress functionary said the party had been apprehensive about a …

This time, he is back in the NDA fold, with the BJP embracing the renewed alliance, the upcoming Lok Sabha election very much on their minds. While Mr. Kumar’s frequent flip-flops have now acquired cult status, his easy embrace by once-spurned allies — both the BJP and earlier, the Rashtriya Janata Dal — is also a factor. After all, newly sworn-in Deputy Chief Minister and BJP legislature party leader Samrat Choudhary had once vowed that he would not take off his saffron turban till he had “dethroned” Mr. Kumar — only to be sworn in to office alongside the CM, with his turban still on.
