Govt to push five new bills, prioritise pending FCRA amendment

The Centre is set to pursue an ambitious legislative agenda during the Eight Session of the 18th Lok Sabha, with plans to introduce five new bills while prioritising the passage of two pending legislations, including the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026. The Monsoon Session of Parliament is scheduled to run from July 20 to August 13. Focus on pending bills Among the government’s top priorities is the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, which was introduced earlier this year. The Centre is also expected to take up the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, 2025, introduced in the Lok Sabha in December last year and later referred to a joint Committee for detailed examination. Girija Oak: Box office pays my bills, but it doesn’t affect my job

Despite Bharat Bhagya Vidhata’s underwhelming box office performance, actor Girija Oak says an actor’s work cannot be measured by a film’s collections. While acknowledging that box office is crucial for the industry as “everybody has to take home a sum of money”, she insists a film’s commercial performance should never dictate an actor’s approach to their craft. “I don’t think it’s got directly to do with an experience of being in a film as an actor, but we also have to understand that this is a business, and we are very much part of a huge machinery that works, where everybody has to take home a sum of money for their lives to go on. So we can’t shy away from the fact that moviemaking is an industry and it’s a business,” says Girija, adding: “Yes, box office does matter to a film because finally it has to sustain the people that are involved in it.” Girija Oak: Box office pays my bills, but it doesn’t affect my job However, Girija is quick to draw …

A senior government official said the policy seeks to move beyond the current system of one-time approvals by introducing continuous monitoring and user charges linked to actual groundwater consumption. “There are provisions from the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) regarding environmental compensation for illegal borewells, but there is no tariff for legal groundwater extraction. We have sought inputs from the CGWB and the environment department on the pricing framework. Under the new system, every …
