The investigation into the twin blasts in Manipur`s Bishnupur district was handed over to the NIA, officials said on Tuesday. Two people were injured in the consecutive explosions that rocked Ngaukon in the Phougakchao police station area on Monday morning, they said. The first blast, suspected to have been caused by an improvised explosive device (IED), occurred around 5.45 am at an abandoned house. The second one occurred nearly 200 metres away around 8.45 am, when locals gathered after getting news of the earlier blast. “The case has been forwarded to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for further investigation,” a statement issued by the state police said. “Combining and search operations are being carried out in the adjoining areas, and security has been strengthened to prevent any further escalation of violence. Investigation and operational efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the blasts,” it said. The arrests were made on Friday (April 11, 2025) from Bishnupur, Imphal East, Imphal West and Kangpokpi districts, they said. A cadre of the Kanglei Yaowl Kanna Lup (KYKL/SOREPA) was arrested from Leimaram Mamang Leikai in Bishnupur. Leichombam Pakpi Devi (37), the arrested militant, was allegedly involved in extortion and recruiting youth in the proscribed group, police said. An active member of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-Noyon) was arrested from the Checkon crossing in Imphal East district. Huidrom Sunder Singh (39) was involved in the transportation of arms and ammunition and extorting shops located in the Mantripukhri area, police said. A militant of KCP(PWG) was arrested from Urup Awang Leikai in Imphal East, while another member of the outfit was nabbed from Lei Ingkhol Maning Leikai in Imphal West. Miscreants tried to set fire to the office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Kumbi in Bishnupur district on Thursday night, the Manipur Police said on Friday. The Manipur government on Friday announced the closure of schools on September 7 in view of unrest arising out of bomb attacks in Bishnupur district. According to a notification issued by the Directorate of Education (Schools), all schools in the state will remain closed on September 7 for safety of students and teachers. “In view of unrest and the prevailing situation in the state and keeping in mind the safety of students and teachers, all government and private schools, central schools will stay closed on September 7,” the notification said. Suspected militants launched a fresh bomb attack in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Friday morning damaging at least two structures, police said. Rockets were fired from elevated positions in the nearby hill areas of Churachandpur district toward the low-lying residential locality of Tronglaobi, located around 45km from state capital Imphal. The range of the rockets was estimated to be over 3km, police said. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from the attack. However, a local community hall and an empty room were damaged because of the bombing, police added. In addition, the suspected militants also fired several rounds towards Bishnupur district, prompting security forces to retaliate.
