BITS Pilani has received a $1 million scholarship endowment to support meritorious and financially deserving female students. The contribution from alumnus Mahesh Samdani (1986 batch) and his wife, Purva Ladha, will establish the Smt Kaushaliya Devi Samdani Scholarship Endowment at the institute. Mahesh Samdani, who currently serves as Managing Director at JPMorgan Chase in New York, instituted the merit-cum-need scholarships in memory of his mother, Kaushaliya Devi Samdani. The endowment aims to help talented women from diverse backgrounds pursue higher education at BITS Pilani without financial constraints. Samdani has maintained a long-standing association with his alma mater, contributing to student placements, the Practice School programme, and management education initiatives through regular interactions and talks. The Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS) Pilani will close the online registration process for the Birla Institute of Technology & Science Admission Test (BITSAT) 2024 on Tuesday i.e. April 16, 2024. Interested candidates who have yet not completed his/her registration for the same can fill out the BITSAT 2024 application form on the official website at bitsadmission.com. As per the notification, the premium institute will open the correction window on April 18 for two days. The last date to make changes in the application form is April 20. As per schedule, BITSAT 2024 session 1 exam will be held from May 20 to May 24. While, the BITS Higher Degree (HD) exam will be conducted on May 19, 2024. Sitharaman advocates for interdisciplinary education, self-sufficiency in tech

Mumbai: Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday emphasized the importance of education for economic growth and highlighted the work done by the government in education and technology. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of BITS Pilani’s new campus, she stressed the need for interdisciplinary courses and underscored the development of 5G technology indigenously. According to Sitharaman, since 2014 India has seen a significant boost in its educational infrastructure, with the establishment of new IITs, IIMs, universities, and colleges, aimed at enhancing the country’s educational landscape. She pointed out that over 1.4 crore youth have been upskilled under the Skill India Mission, demonstrating the government’s commitment to education and skill development. “We are ensuring that the Budgetary allocations are being made and at the same time government is actively pursuing mutual recognition of academic qualifications and trying to sign MOUs with countries so that they will be able to take our students,” she added. BITS Pilani has launched BITS Design School which will teach design by combining inter-disciplinary subjects such as technology, business, and entrepreneurship. Students enrolling for the Bachelors and Masters programmes will be taught by international and Indian faculty trained at prominent design schools in the world, at the institute based in Mumbai. “From manufacturing to services, and retail to technology, design is shaping the future of how businesses approach problem-solving and innovation,” said Kumar Mangalam Birla, chancellor, BITS Pilani. “BITS Design School will reimagine design education with a bold, trans-disciplinary, competency based approach, and embrace avenues where design can positively impact people, businesses, and the world,” Birla said. The Birla Institute of Technology And Science (BITS) Pilani today launched BITS Design School (BITSDES) in Mumbai. BITS Design School will introduce a four-year, residential, bachelor of design (honours) programme in the academic year 2024-25, followed by a master’s degree programme and a faculty development programme for design educators over the next two years. Admissions for the new design school will begin on February 26 2024 for the founding class who will be taught by international visiting faculty and a marquee Indian faculty trained at the top design schools in the world. The Goa Bench of Bombay High Court has directed two engineering students to do community service for two hours daily for two months, giving them relief from strict action by their college after they apparently stole items such as potato chips, chocolates, pens during a conference. The Bench comprising Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay and Justice M. S. Sonak on Monday set aside the decision of Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani, Goa campus, to debar the students from appearing for their semester examination. The Bench instead directed the students, both aged 18, to perform community service for two hours every day at an old-age home in Goa for two months. As per the court order, five students, including the two petitioners, were alleged to have stolen potato chips, chocolates, sanitisers, pens, notepads, cellphone stands, two desk lamps, and three Bluetooth speakers from stalls during a conference on the college campus in November 2023.
