Oscar run is bittersweet for brother and friend who made film after death of journalist Brent Renaud One thing was clear, though. He needed to keep filming. Arjun Erigaisi ended a year of heartbreak with some more heartache: missing out on a medal of a better colour at the World Blitz Championship after an imperious run into the semi-finals. Erigaisi did end the FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championship with two bronze medals, adding a Blitz bronze on Tuesday to the Rapid bronze medal he had claimed on Sunday. But the form that Erigaisi was in over the past two days since the blitz format started in Doha, he could have easily won the whole thing. India thus finished the prestigious year-ending tournament with three medals, all bronze, with Koneru Humpy also ending in third place in the Women’s Rapid Championship. Meanwhile, Magnus Carlsen made a comeback for the ages to claim the World Blitz Championship for the ninth time, defeating Nodirbek Abdusattorov in the final. Both Carlsen and Abdusattorov had snuck into the semi-finals at the last minute while Erigaisi and Fabiano Caruana (who shared bronze with Arjun) had been at the top of the standings for plenty of the race. …

Neeraj Chopra’s 90m dream achieved: On ‘bittersweet’ night, Neeraj hopes it is just the beginning for bigger throws | Sport-others News

A wry smile, a shake of the head, and a side embrace with his fellow competitors. There wouldn’t be a more muted, low-key celebration to any sporting accomplishment than this, let alone when an athlete joins an exclusive club that only a couple of dozen were a part of before Friday night. Indeed, Neeraj Chopra roared and raised his arms in the trademark fashion as he launched the javelin into Doha’s night sky. But that he always does. The difference this time — on this balmy evening with the temperature in the low 30s and very little wind — was that the spear flew and kept flying. By the time it returned to earth, crashing into the other end of the arena, the javelin had travelled the farthest Neeraj — or any other Indian, for that matter — had ever thrown — 90.23m. Three years after coming within 6cm of the 90m mark, Neeraj finally breached the barrier at the Doha leg of the Diamond League on Friday night. The landmark throw came on his …
