From essay-writing and debate competitions for school and college students to meetings with former Chief Justices of India, the Parliamentary committee examining the two Bills for simultaneous elections is considering an extensive public consultation and awareness campaign on the One Nation One Election Bills, it is learnt. On Friday, the Joint Committee on the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty–Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024 and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024, chaired by BJP MP P P Chaudhary, held its second meeting “to discuss the procedure and modalities for examination of the Amendment Bills”, as per the agenda. Chaudhary said the discussion was “positive” and that members discussed an indicative list of stakeholders to be invited for written and oral submissions to the committee. He said the committee had decided that it should visit all states to interact with stakeholders.
