MOHAN The Kannur district committee of the Kerala Students’ Union (KSU) staged a rail blockade at the Kannur railway station on Tuesday, protesting against the Delhi Police’s action against senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, and the alleged irregularities in the NEET examination. KSU activists blocked a train, raising slogans against the Union government. The police later arrested and removed the protesters. Inaugurating the protest, KSU district president M.C. Athul alleged that the Centre was attempting to suppress even democratic protests by using the police. He claimed that the Centre had betrayed students by allowing the NEET examination to be compromised through question paper leaks. Mr. Athul warned that the KSU would intensify its agitation in the coming days against what he described as the Centre’s anti-people policies, alleged NEET examination scam, and police action against Opposition members. The protest was led by KSU district vice-president Ashith Ashokan and district secretary Suraj Pariyaram. Published – July 22, 2026 02:03 …

How a blockade in Red Sea tightens Iran’s grip on global energy supplies | Explained

Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis will impose a maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia, they said on Monday, further throttling a global energy market already greatly restricted by Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz. After handing Mojtaba a ‘win,’ spooked US threatens new blockade, more military strikes

Published on Jun 19, 2026 01:12 am IST The guns may have fallen silent, but the threat of war has not disappeared. Just hours after the United States and Iran signed a historic peace Memorandum of Understanding, Washington delivered a stark reminder that the agreement would be enforced under the shadow of American military power. U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth warned that the Pentagon remains prepared to resume military operations if Tehran fails to honour the commitments made under the newly signed agreement. According to Hegseth, the deal is not built on trust but on verification, with Washington making it clear that any violation by Iran could trigger a renewed military response. The warning comes at a time when Iran continues to emphasise its strategic leverage over the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy chokepoints through which a significant portion of global oil shipments pass. In response, the United States has signalled that it could reimpose an “ironclad blockade” against Iran if Tehran does not comply with the agreement.   Home …

How a US Naval blockade is quietly suffocating Iran’s economy

3 min readNew DelhiMay 1, 2026 05:23 PM IST A US naval blockade of Iranian ports has shrunk Tehran’s oil exports, stranding a growing stockpile of crude on tankers as Iranian storage sites run out of space, shipping data showed, and analysts said. With some vessels switching off tracking systems and US forces turning back Iranian tankers, how much crude Iran is delivering to customers, particularly its main customer, China, is impossible to measure. Just a handful of carriers carrying Iranian crude have left the Gulf of Oman between April 13 and 25, oil analytics firm Vortexa said.
