Maharashtra’s single-window clearance system: A boon or bane

In a move that could reshape India’s live entertainment landscape, the Maharashtra government is preparing to streamline how concerts and large-scale events come to life. As per reports, a panel has been directed to draft a detailed, industry-friendly SOP based on the central government’s model for live event clearance. Maharashtra’s single-window clearance system: A boon or bane With the state working on a single-window clearance system backed by clear standard operating procedures, HT got in touch with organisers, artists and attendees, as they share their take on how this new rule could cut through long-standing hurdles. Naman Pugalia, Chief Business Officer – Live Events, BookMyShow, says, “The introduction of a single-window clearance system sets a strong precedent. In our recent report, we outlined how unified clearance mechanisms, supported by stronger inter-departmental coordination, can significantly improve ease of doing business and enable the efficient delivery of global-scale events. We’ve seen firsthand how fragmented approvals can impact timelines, routing and execution. A system like this meaningfully reduces that friction. With progressive policies, faster approvals and transparent governance, …

OPINION: Is the Dhurandhar dominance a boon by saving Bollywood or a bane silencing competition?

OPINION: Is the Dhurandhar dominance a boon by saving Bollywood or a bane silencing competition?

The Hindi film industry’s biggest blockbusters, Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh in the lead, witnessed a historic run at the box office. Helmed by Aditya Dhar, both films opened major conversations about how their success can transform the filmmaking style in Hindi cinema. One major question that arises is whether Dhurandhar’s dominance at the box office is a boon that is saving Bollywood or a bane that is silencing competition. In my opinion, tentpole films like Dhurandhar are a matter of pride for the industry. These movies attract huge footfalls, which eventually drive the business. Big grossers are always welcome, but you can’t have such releases every week. Therefore, the industry needs small and mid-budget films to work consistently. This used to happen quite well in the pre-pandemic era, but everything has changed this decade. Dhurandhar isn’t directly a bane that silences competition. It’s more about the industry not getting the scheduling of films right. Yash made a smart decision by avoiding a clash of Toxic with Dhurandhar: The Revenge, but it …

Tom Boon hat-trick powers Ranchi Royals into Hockey India League 2026 final

Tom Boon hat-trick powers Ranchi Royals into Hockey India League 2026 final

Ranchi Royals booked their place in the final of the Men’s Hockey India League 2026 with a gripping 3-2 victory over Hyderabad Toofans in Qualifier 2 at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Sunday. A clinical hat-trick from Tom Boon proved decisive as the Royals set up a title clash against Vedanta Kalinga Lancers. Hyderabad Toofans made an aggressive start and were rewarded in the fifth minute when Jacob Anderson opened the scoring. The move was created by a strong run down the right by Rajinder Singh, who weaved past multiple defenders before setting up Anderson for a close-range deflection. The early lead gave the Toofans momentum, and they came close to doubling their advantage moments later through a long-range effort that narrowly missed its target. Ranchi Royals responded by capitalising on Hyderabad’s indiscipline in defence. Two penalty corners in quick succession allowed Boon to turn the match on its head. With precise injections from Manpreet Singh, the Belgian striker converted in the 13th and 15th minutes to give the Royals a 2-1 lead …

Found Ball Tampering And Security Issues Challenging: Just-Retired ICC Match Referee David Boon

Just-retired ICC match referee David Boon says ball tampering and security issues were the biggest challenges that he found “confronting” during his 14-year tenure in the position. Boon officiated in 87 Tests, 183 ODIs and 119 T20Is in the men’s game and seven women’s T20Is. The 64-year-old former Australia opener, who will join Cricket Australia (CA) as director to continue his long-standing association with the sport, looked back at the joys and challenges of officiating in international matches. “I think there are challenges that you have to meet everyday. You learn something everyday. I suppose there are certain things that are a bit more confronting, I found. “When I first started one of those (challenges) was ball tampering which I found very confronting… To basically accuse somebody of not doing the right thing,” Boon said in a video shared by ICC on X. “And when there is a security and safety issue they were extremely challenging. One sadly here in Dhaka, Bangladesh and one in Christchurch, but you worked through it … You …

Too many platforms both a boon and bane for actors: Shilpa Shetty | Bollywood

Mumbai, Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty believes the new era, where there are many platforms and options for actors, is both a boon and bane for the film industry. Too many platforms both a boon and bane for actors: Shilpa Shetty Shetty, one of the most popular stars of the 1990s and 2000s, said diversification means actors are now required to make more strategic choices about the roles they take on. “We are facing a difficult time in cinema. Today, films, whether helmed by women or men, are finding it difficult to it’s the content that the audience is looking for. The taste of the audience has changed. There are too many platforms available, so audiences are spoilt for choice. “So, actors have to make the right choices. Having too many platforms has become a boon and bane, so it’s a double-edged sword,” the actor told PTI on the sidelines of the Jagran Film Festival. Shetty expressed gratitude to fans for helping her maintain her popularity for all these years. “The last few years have been …

Growth of e-commerce is a boon for millions of MSMEs

As India strides towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy by FY28, the economy is undergoing significant transformation. Startups and large enterprises are driving innovation, while micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are embracing digitisation. MSMEs are increasingly adopting digital way of doing business as it helps them enhance market access and improve cost-efficiency in their operations and transactions. Digital Commerce (Representational) E-commerce has played a critical role for MSMEs, allowing even small artisans to reach customers globally. Industry data shows the e-commerce market is set to grow at a robust annual growth rate in the coming four years (2024 to 2029), and MSMEs will be the key beneficiaries of this expansion. While broad-based digitisation and e-commerce growth have positively impacted MSMEs that have adapted to technology, the proportion of MSMEs leveraging e-commerce remains low compared to the overall manufacturing base in India. Given the robust growth of e-commerce both nationally and globally, it is crucial to focus on how MSMEs can capitalise on this trend. The impact of e-commerce in opening markets, enhancing supply chains, …

Tata-Run iPhone Plant Would be a Boon for India, Says Executive

Tata Group succeeding with its bid to take over an iPhone assembly plant in southern India would give a boost to the country’s ambitions to become an electronics manufacturing hub, a top executive at the conglomerate’s software services arm said. “I am not directly involved in that, but it should be really good for India because this is going to create an opportunity in India to manufacture electronics and microelectronics,” N Ganapathy Subramaniam, operating chief at Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., told Bloomberg TV’s Rishaad Salamat and Haslinda Amin in an interview on Tuesday. The $128 billion (roughly Rs. 10,50,100) Tata Group has been in talks for months with Apple’s Taiwanese supplier Wistron and is looking to seal the purchase of its assembly factory near Bangalore by the end of March. The salt-to-airline conglomerate has been expanding its presence in technology, and India’s government has taken steps to challenge China’s dominance in electronics. Subramaniam and Tata Group Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran are brothers, hailing from India’s southern Tamil Nadu state. Shares of TCS fell as much as 2.7 …
