‘Borders are dangerous’: Awarapan fame Pakistani singer Mustapha Zahid reacts to Amaal Mallik recreating songs in sequel

When Awarapan was released in 2007, it quickly became a cult success. Part of the film’s appeal was its music, particularly To Phir Aao and Tera Mera Rishta, which became synonymous with the film. The former is now being recreated for the film’s sequel – Awarapan 2 – as its title track, with Amaal Mallik taking over the duties of composing and singing it. This has elicited a response from Pakistani singer Mustapha Zahid, best known for his work on the original Awarapan soundtrack. Shriya Saran and Emraan Hashmi in a still from the 2007 film Awarapan. Yoga beyond borders: The Indian Army’s global outreach

Yoga beyond borders: The Indian Army’s global outreach

Long before Yoga became a global symbol of health and wellness, it was regarded in India as a pathway to mental clarity, emotional balance and mastery over the self – qualities indispensable to a warrior. The timeless link between Yoga and soldiering finds its most profound expression in the Bhagavad Gita. Faced with doubt and moral conflict on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, Arjuna found himself unable to perform his duty. It was through Lord Krishna’s teachings on Karma Yoga – the Yoga of selfless action and steadfastness in duty – that he regained clarity of purpose and the resolve to fulfil his responsibilities. It is therefore no coincidence that the Indian Army, one of the world’s largest and most experienced armies, has emerged as a leading ambassador of Yoga, carrying India’s ancient wisdom to military communities across the globe. While diplomats, cultural organisations and wellness institutions have played a significant role in this journey, the Indian Army has quietly emerged as an equally important contributor. The Timeless Charm of Runa Laila: A Voice That Transcends Borders

The Timeless Charm of Runa Laila: A Voice That Transcends Borders

If sexy had a human form, it would be Runa Laila.  It is a voice which is sensual and maddeningly perfect at the same time. Runa is the girl who will tell you secrets and keep them within her like an ocean. Though she lives in Bangladesh, her voice cuts across continents. My first brush with her was in the black and white era of DD with songs like the iconic Dama Dam Mast Qalandar and O Mera Babu Chail Chabila. It was a voice not heard to miss, along with the sexiness. The pathos she brought to a ghazal was incredible but I love her version of Ranjish Hi Sahi and Ke Ghungroo Toot Gaye. As kids growing up, I remember the Super Runa album that came out, with Bappi Lahiri. The collection of astounding songs. I first heard De De Pyar De Pyar De then and went back to Dada Burman’s version. Her ek se badhkar ek numbers for Kalyanji Anandji are tops, though my favourites are her Gharonda numbers with Jaidev. Music …
