‘My best football is yet to come’: Antoine Semenyo after signing for Manchester City from Bournemouth | Football News

Manchester City on Friday strengthened their team with the signing of Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth in a 65 million pounds and a 5 and a half year deal. Semenyo, who has scored 10 goals this season, has been one of the brightest spots in Bournemouth’s attack this season. “I am so proud to have joined Manchester City. I have watched City over the last decade under Pep Guardiola, and they have been the dominant team in the Premier League as well as achieving amazing things in the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup. They have set the highest of standards and it’s a club with world-class players, world-class facilities and one of the greatest managers ever in Pep,” he said in a release by City after joining the club. “I have so much scope for improvement, so to be at this club, at this stage of my career, is perfect for me. It’s a real privilege to be here. My best football is yet to come, I am sure of that. And …

Omar Marmoush Fires Manchester City Into FA Cup Semis After Erling Haaland Limps Off

Omar Marmoush Fires Manchester City Into FA Cup Semis After Erling Haaland Limps Off

Manchester City came from behind to reach the FA Cup semi-finals for a record seventh consecutive season with a 2-1 win over Bournemouth on Sunday, but victory came at a cost as Erling Haaland hobbled off injured. Haaland had seen a first-half penalty saved before Evanilson put the Cherries in front. The Norwegian made amends by equalising four minutes into the second period before being forced off with an ankle injury. His replacement, Omar Marmoush, took just two minutes to score the winner from a second assist by the impressive Nico O’Reilly as City booked a semi-final clash against Nottingham Forest. “Seven times in a row reaching semi-finals in the FA Cup…this is outstanding. This generation of players, they have done this,” said City boss Pep Guardiola. City have been a shadow of the side that won four consecutive Premier League titles this season and Guardiola said prior to the game that even FA Cup glory would not save a miserable season. The English champions’ collapse in the Premier League began at Bournemouth …

Man City rallies to beat Bournemouth and reach FA Cup semifinals but Haaland goes off injured | Football News

Manchester City could still end its disappointing season with a trophy after rallying to beat Bournemouth 2-1 in the FA Cup quarterfinals on Sunday, with Erling Haaland inspiring the comeback before being forced off injured. Haaland, who had a penalty saved in the first half, equalized in the 49th but hobbled off 12 minutes later with a left ankle injury, having briefly tried to play on. Omar Marmoush came on as Haaland’s replacement and, within two minutes, scored the clinching goal to ensure City won in the quarterfinals for a record-extending seventh straight season. Story continues below this ad Already out of the Champions League and down in fifth place — 22 points behind leader Liverpool — in an improbably poor Premier League title defense, City can partly rescue its season by winning the FA Cup for an eighth time, and a third time in Pep Guardiola’s tenure. City will face Nottingham Forest in the semifinals being played at Wembley Stadium next month. On the same weekend there, Aston Villa, which beat second-tier Preston 3-0 …

Mohamed Salah Takes Liverpool Nine Clear, Forest Hit Brighton For Seven

Mohamed Salah Takes Liverpool Nine Clear, Forest Hit Brighton For Seven

Mohamed Salah scored twice to take Liverpool nine points clear at the top of the Premier League by beating Bournemouth 2-0 on Saturday, while third-placed Nottingham Forest smashed Brighton 7-0. Salah’s double took him above Frank Lampard as the sixth highest goalscorer in Premier League history with 178 goals on another significant day in the Reds’ charge towards a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title. Bournemouth had not lost in 12 games in all competitions and beaten Arsenal and Manchester City at home earlier this season. The Cherries can count themselves unfortunate not to have extended that run as they hit the woodwork either side of half-time through Antoine Semenyo and Marcus Tavernier. Bournemouth were also furious over the awarding of a penalty that opened the scoring on the half hour mark as Cody Gakpo appeared to clip his own heels as he entered the box rather than being tripped by Lewis Cook. VAR did not intervene to overturn referee Darren England’s original decision to point to the spot and Salah ruthlessly rifled home …

Darwin Nunez Rides To Liverpool’s Rescue, Newcastle Thrashed By Bournemouth

Darwin Nunez Rides To Liverpool’s Rescue, Newcastle Thrashed By Bournemouth

Darwin Nunez struck twice in stoppage time to earn Liverpool a 2-0 win at Brentford and open up a seven-point Premier League lead on Saturday after Bournemouth ran riot in a 4-1 win at Newcastle. The Reds looked set to drop points for the third consecutive league game until the much-maligned Uruguayan doubled his tally of Premier League goals for the season in the dying seconds in west London. Nunez swept home Trent Alexander-Arnold‘s cross before smashing in a second for a vital twist in the title race. Instead of cutting the gap, Arsenal are now under pressure to keep pace when they host Aston Villa in the 1730GMT kick-off. Liverpool had been wasteful in front of goal in a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest in midweek and Arne Slot’s men nearly let another two points slip away. Dominik Szoboszlai smashed a shot off the bar and Cody Gakpo failed to hit the target with a glorious chance to open the scoring before half-time. On a rare quiet day for Mohamed Salah, Slot …

Manchester United Embarrassed By Bournemouth, Chelsea Held At Everton

Manchester United Embarrassed By Bournemouth, Chelsea Held At Everton

Manchester United crashed to a humiliating 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth, while Chelsea missed the chance to go top of the Premier League after a 0-0 draw at Everton on Sunday. United boss Ruben Amorim, who once again left Marcus Rashford out of his squad, is set for a miserable Christmas following the worst result of his brief reign. Languishing in 13th place, United have suffered four defeats in nine matches in all competitions since Amorim arrived from Sporting Lisbon in November to replace the sacked Erik ten Hag. United’s second successive loss after their League Cup exit at Tottenham on Thursday underlined Amorim’s belief that their road back to the top will be long and arduous. United, who have conceded first in their last six games, were booed off at half-time, while the final whistle was greeted by more jeers from the few fans who stayed until the bitter end. While it is far too early to pass judge on Amorim, the Portuguese coach cannot afford many more results like this if …

Enes Unal’s Late Stunner Rescues Bournemouth In West Ham Draw

Enes Unal’s Late Stunner Rescues Bournemouth In West Ham Draw

Bournemouth’s Enes Unal provided a dramatic climax to his side’s 1-1 draw with West Ham on Monday as the Turkey forward’s superb late free-kick cancelled out Lucas Paqueta’s penalty. Paqueta looked to have sealed West Ham’s second successive Premier League victory when he converted from the spot with just three minutes left at the Vitality Stadium. But Unal came to the Cherries’ rescue three minutes later with only his second goal this season. The 27-year-old’s moment of magic extended Bournemouth’s unbeaten run to four games as they climbed to sixth place. Bournemouth have scored a league-high 10 goals in the final 15 minutes of games this season.  Two of those goals came in a remarkable 2-1 win at Ipswich in their previous game, with Unal also scoring Bournemouth’s equaliser on that occasion. “Enes scored an amazing goal. He’s a specialist. But it’s only one point. I’m very disappointed with the penalty,” Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola said of the decision that went against his team for Tyler Adams’ handball. “It is a play we …

Manchester City Suffer First League Loss Since December, Arsenal Crash As Liverpool Go Top

Manchester City Suffer First League Loss Since December, Arsenal Crash As Liverpool Go Top

Manchester City suffered their first Premier League loss since December as Bournemouth stunned the champions, while Arsenal were rocked by Newcastle and Liverpool seized top spot on Saturday. City were unbeaten in their previous 32 league games, dating back to a defeat at Aston Villa last year. But Pep Guardiola’s second-placed side saw that streak come to an unexpected end in a 2-1 loss on England’s south coast. The Cherries had never beaten City in their 21 previous meetings, losing 19 of those matches, yet Andoni Iraola‘s team sprang a huge upset to derail the champions’ push for a fifth successive title. Bournemouth recently damaged Arsenal’s title hopes with a 2-0 win at the Vitality Stadium and they inflicted pain on City as well. Guardiola had claimed City faced an injury “emergency” after they suffered fitness problems in Wednesday’s League Cup defeat at Tottenham. Exhausted or not, City were rocked in the ninth minute when Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo drilled Milos Kerkez’s cross past Ederson from inside the area. Guardiola’s men were unable …

Premier League: Bournemouth shock Manchester City 2-1, beat them for first time ever as Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson score | Football News

Premier League: Bournemouth shock Manchester City 2-1, beat them for first time ever as Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson score | Football News

Bournemouth pulled off the mother of all upsets when they shocked champions Manchester City 2-0 in the Premier League on Saturday. This was also the Cherries’ first win ever against City who lost for the first time this season. Antoine Semenyo put the hosts in the lead in the 9th minute before Evanilson doubled their lead in the 64th minute while Joško Gvardiol pulled one back for City in the 82nd minute. City had the lion’s share of the possession but it mattered little when the final whistle blew. This was the Cherries’ biggest win since they upset title challengers Arsenal in the same ground on October 19. Pep Guardiola’s side had a less than stellar afternoon with City having 4 shots on target all match as opposed to Bournemouth’s 6. It’s even more damning that City’s first on target came in the 80th minute courtesy of an Erling Haaland shot which the Bournemouth keeper Mark Travers saved. Travers even pulled off an excellent save in the 3rd minute of stoppage time to deny Haaland …
